okay seems that i can't sell my bass so i have to stick with it till i have the $ to change, but i have to change the string,,, any one advice me where to get it? where can help me change, or both, which brand? and what brand of string, is a 4 string bass

Davis does re-stringing of guitars/ basses. they have a good selection of bass strings as well. do check their charges first... 8-)

will changing the string of a bass affect the bass sound? what is the meaning of setting low action? sorry i a noob,

yes it will depending on what kind of string you changing and the most important thing is the gauges size.it will make your bass sounds brighter depending on your taste.

string gauge is not proportionate to brightness... you can have a 'fatter' or 'thinner' sounding gauge, but i feel brightness is determined mainly by the age of the string and what the string is made of - flat- or round-wound, stainless steel or nickel or other alloy, hex or round core. for example, a pack of .45 d'addario prisms will sound brighter than a pack of .45 d'addario XLs, simply because of the way the string is constructed.

eric- what colour are the ball ends (the part that prevent the string from slipping through the bridge) on your string?

colour ar... no color lei... is a stock epiphone string, i feel it is crappy n steely, so decide to have a change

DR strings are generally good stuff. I like lo-riders and sunbeams.

Davis won't re-string them for free, but I don't understand why you'd want them to do it for you in the first place... you mean to say you don't know how to re-string your bass?

Was in Davis last Friday. No stock of the DR strings at present. You might want to give them a call to find out when the stock will be in.

Davis doesn't bring in much of the range, and won't bother bringing in special requests unless you have a minimum order of 6 packs.

If you're not adverse to internet shopping, then I'd suggest you check out

1. Stringthis.com (Int'l shipping = US$28)
2. Juststrings.com (Int'l shipping = US$35)

If you have a vpost account, then shipping will be cheaper.

Slightly off topic here, but I thought I'd introduce this brand of "cheapo" strings for those of you who are tired of paying so much for strings and wish you could change them out more often - www.webstrings.com

With plenty of gauges for everyone and at only US$10.99 a pack (int'l shipping is US$6 + 15% cost of strings) there's no reason not to try out a set just to see if these generic brand strings can hold their own against paying 2 - 3 times more for other brands.

i told every one here liao I AM A NOOB on BASS zzzzzzz

stringing it is pretty easy, like tying shoelaces. just stick the end into the hole of the tuning peg and turn until it reaches the note. they will loosen overnight, so just tighten up in the morning.
