my neck is actually warping, like when i look down the neck from the nut, there is a depression in the middle of the neck, as in like a curve to it. would a tightening of the truss rod fix this problem?
there IS supposed to be a little bit of a curve to your neck. just not too much. the bit of curve is called relief. if a neck was too straight, all your frets would be dead.
if you think the neck is curving too much and affecting your action, then yea, you could tighten your truss rod. watch out how much you turn though. a little can go a long way. suggest 1/4 - 1/2 turns each time.
remember to set your intonation after everything is settled
your neck is supposed to have some relief .. but too much relief won't help either .. will make your playing difficult .. here's some stuff you can do to check your neck relief and see whether you need to adjust your neck or not ..
on the E string (B-string if you are using a 5-stringer) .. press down on the first fret with your left fretting hand .. after which use your right arm elbow to press down the string at the end of the neck or the end of the fingerboard, make sure it touches the fingerboard/fret ... by doing this you have created a perfectly straight line in contrast to your fingerboard ..
pivot your right arm elbow and use your right index finger to check how much the string moves in the middle of the finger board .. usually for my bass my neck relief is about the size of a credit card .. i like things low .. =) ..
you want you can adjust truss rod if necessary .. lower saddles if you want to .. yeah ..
