Lately i have been experiencing this irritating problems, yup, suddenly went off in the middle of any tasks. Im using a Compaq Presario SR5275AP. At times it also got problem starting up. I have to restart 2 to 3 times. I suspect its overheated, now i opened up the cover and using a fan to blow directly into the inner part. Hope it will help.
So please advise me of any actions I should take.
Thanks.

usually theres a few factors,

1) Power Supply going to kapoot
2) Processor too hot

make sure all your fans are working.. especially your processor fan,
then check if the big fan/other fans are in the right direction and not bringing in hot air.

had the same problem about 2 months ago, i replaced power supply and changed all the fans inside and added one more fan.. now it runs 24/7.

to add to that, usually there is alot of dust buildup in your fans especially the one on your processor.. i had to clean mine.. when i opened it, the dust laying on the fan inbetween the heatsink is like carpet man lol..

use an application (used at kingston service centre) memtest , check your ram. usually it's a ram fault for sudden reboots.

if you use any USB devices and that causes reboot or often prompts saying "USB device not recognised" even though it should be, then it's powersupply/mainboard problem.

if your graphics card get messed up during playing intensive graphic games , then it could be the VGA.

if it happens during copying a huge file, and your hdd makes weird skipping noises or hdd light reading lits up nonstop, then it could be your hdd is failing.

gd luck!
