my originals!

love your lyrics. I feel that you're trying a bit too hard at the singing part. Just relax your vocal chords a bit. You're stressing them a bit. :)

Other that, awesome composition. :)

Yo Eric~
requesting friend from your myspace :P

You are singing at pretty high voice huh (average C4 and above). Vocal-wise i don't think i have much to comment on, coz i suspect 40-50% is due to recording device. But maybe just 1, that perhaps you can open up your mouth more? (NOT OPERA, that's not what i'm talking about). By opening your mouth more, your diction, expressions, tone and resonance will improve. (i think :P don't flaameee moi)

You can invest on a usb condenser mic and a pop-filter and your overall recording will definitely improve MUCH especially you're heavily depend on your guitar and voice. Are you doing several tracks or just 1 track with everything?

Songwriting wise, i'm pretty amatuerrisshhh too, so all i can say, KEEP WRITING, and you'll keep growing~ PErhaps we'll see a song of yours on the top40? hehehe~ And prepare to be PUT DOWN, POURED COLD WATER ON, SPIT ON, SCOFFED AT, etc but don't give up, i think you have something to offer :)

Listen to you again 3-6mths later. ~~ :)

hey KhaiHan,

I thought he wasn't really straining too much coz he's singing pretty high notes on average. Coz that those ranges, it's like 1-2steps before reaching mixed voice region already...

I don't know about you, perhaps you are pretty comfortable at that region, but i'm kinda like "prepared" go into mixed voice :( maybe my range is low

If it's true, then how can you relax? I find it hard to relax at that region. :/

*disclaimer: not a challenge or what :P just hope i can learn more in vocalising at higher regions

Well, i disagree. I believe he was truly straining his voice a bit. Although he wasn't really going too flat on the higher notes, he was over-exerting pressure on his vocal chords.

For higher notes, if i'm not mistaken, its constantly doing scales and going higher gradually. Its a progressive effort. One more thing about singing higher notes, make sure you're using your diaphragm. A simple and straight forward 'strategy', if i could put it in that sense, is to bloat your tummy outwards when you sing higher notes. You can also use it when you're almost out of breath. It helps by (1) reducing pressure to your vocal chords and (2) prevents you from going flat when hitting the high notes.

For me, i'm not comfortable singing high notes cos i'll stress my vocal chords (even with the diaphragm technique). I mean, different people are given different ranges. I doubt Michael Buble could sing Mariah Carey's songs in the same key. What i'm implying here is that, you can change the key of the song to the key that you are comfortable singing at. But this doesn't mean that you can't do the same for your originals. I found out that if i go for a show, i increase my guitar key up by a semitone and i sound better. But if its at a lounge or relatively small area, i keep it at its original key.

Touching a side note, it doesn't mean your voice has to go higher when you increase the key on your guitar or play a higher key on your piano. If you think you're not able to reach it, try to sing an octave lower of that key. I've tried it and realised that although my voice is mid range at that key, other people who try to sing with me have to go really high.

My 3 cents. :P
