My new music project - Hope you'll listen!

Hey people, its been a while. Quite busy with work these days so hardly any time to browse the forums.

I've also been hard at work... getting back into the songwriting groove and starting to write songs after a 7-year break in writing music. Here are some of the "first-fruits" of what I've been doing!

Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/mwzh
Facebook: http://bit.ly/91WpZ2

This music is still very raw and intentionally so. My intention is just to come up with as many song ideas as I can, and capture them in a basic state and present it as-is to people. The main problem I've faced in songwriting is that I've dismissed a lot of riffs and progressions simply because they are too cliched. This time round, I've decided to just work with what teases my ear at a given point of time and disregard considerations like genre or even "originality". The whole point is to just get myself to start writing music again, and I think its starting to work.

Hope you'll enjoy listening to these songs, and do hope you'll follow me on myspace or facebook because I'm going to be regularly uploading new music, and possibly re-do some of the existing music as the songs evolve and grow.

Thanks guys!

I really liked "she said"
Vocal track has some de-tune problems. And need some more instruments to be added. Nice drums and organ sound in the beginning is wonderful then it keep on that way. you better make some changes either in the arrangement or adding new instruments by supporting drums, more pad, strings etc... Its 8 minutes song and drum never changes, you imagine

I found out you have vocal and mix, master problem all over your songs. You can let somebody master them for you.

hi, thanks for listening. i also like "she said" a lot and i agree that the arrangement is quite draggy. i realise the tempo is really too slow, and i could probably cut out one verse from the arrangement. if this song makes it to an album, i'll get it fixed.

yup, i know that all the vocal tracks have got pitching problems - i do have problems with keeping in key. thanks for pointing that out. also, all the songs have got lousy mix - that i'm also quite aware.

when i re-do the songs eventually those problems will be addressed but for now since these songs are in demo stage, i'll leave them as-is as the priority for me now is to focus on songwriting and getting ideas down on record.

thanks for listening anyway, im really happy you took the time to listen and that you bothered to let me know what you think. i really appreciate that. :)

i used garageband - some of the songs were existing drum loops, others were midi drum loops i created from scratch. about 40/60 proportion. initially i used my midi keyboard to trigger the drums - which resulted in some bloody awful timing. but since some songs ended up being recorded around the bloody awful timing drums, i decided to let sleeping dogs lie. later on, i used the keyboard to get me in the ballpark, then i used the midi editor in garageband to manually get the drums in time, add fills and change velocity etc. because i was working under a self-imposed time limit that usually meant i could create only around 4 variations of drum patterns. but i'm happy with the results for now - can't wait to re-record these songs with a real drummer though.

hey petrus / humming kitten, thanks for listening, and thanks for the kind words. listened to your myspace, and i dig your sound too. haven't heard that mbv meets pumpkins wall of sound in a while - two thumbs up!
