My Guitar Mod!!!

Hi guys!
Thought I'd tell you all abt how I'm going to upgrade my Ibanez S520EX guitar. :)
So here goes!

1) Changing current 14:1 gotoh tuners to new Gotoh 21:1 Delta tuners

2) Changing Edge tremolo to a Gotoh GE1996 Licensed Floyd Rose.

3) Changing bridge pup from Dimarzion Breed (For sale now!) to Dimazrio Tonezone

4) Changing pup rings and knobs to chrome hardware

5) Changing output jack, Vol pot and Tone pot. Tone pot will be the Fender No Load tone pot.

6) Shielding all cavities and re-wiring everything.

7) Total Refret (Changing from Dunlop 6100 frets to 6105, like those on JEMs; keeps intonation better as it wears)

8) Changing switch and adding mini toggle (see below)

Option 8 will be the same Ibanez 5-way switch but with an added mini 2-way toggle switch that does split coil/parallel switching operations... AND that mini toggle only affects the positions 2 3 and 4 on the pup switch. This would leave the 5-way pup selector to do this:

1: Neck (Series)
2: Neck (split/parallel) --- }
3: Neck + Bridge (split/parallel) --- } affected by 2-way mini switch
4: Bridge (split/parallel) --- }
5: Bridge (Series only)

*Hopefully its possible!*

So the new refurbished axe will be ready by, early May! :)

I'd post before and after pics when its done!

btw, who else has heavily modified their axe?

Cheerio!
Daniel

hmm i think u can consider a push pull pot or the Fender press-in knob/pot to replace ur 2 way mini toggle. that way u don't have to modify ur pickguard.

I wanna hear what the Tone Zone sounds like in mahogany.

I'll be modding my Les Paul further. Gotta change the machine heads to locking, nut to LSR roller nut, bridge to LSR roller bridge, new pots and pickup selector. Stuff like that. Won't be completed soon though.

I don't have a pickguard man... but yah, why didn't I think of a push pull?!

Oh yah... coz I was toying with the idea of having a 3 way toggle switch! So it'd do a Parallel/Split/Ground thing... and the ground will only work on pup switch positions 2 and 4... so I can do that Les Paul tremolo kind of effect.. heheh..

But i've yet to confirm if it can be done...

what's the difference between the two gotoh tuners ? the one u have and the one ure going to use...

So are your going to drill a hole for the new switch ?

The old one has a 14:1 turn ratio... the new ones are 21:1 and has better lubrication... makes for smoother and more accurate tuning up...
And yeah, its a cosmetic thing too, really.. 8)

I will drill a hole for the switch.. putting it right between my vol and tone knob.

Wow. Sounds interesting, man! Get some pics up! :D

Don't know if you'll call mine heavily modified...

All new PUPs, essentially H-H-H all three can be coil split via two mini toggle switches.

Um... thinking of scallops, custom inlays and LED lights, if and when I have the financial backing, so... if anybody would like to contribute to the Praetorian Guitar Modification Fund 2005 (PGMF'05), send me a PM and I'll arrange details. LOL Just kidding HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH.

For a start, my Strat and Les Paul are already heavily modified.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to share your modifications with us? Lol. I still can't list down your mods one by one =/

Tell me abt your mods! :)

Strat (in order of stuff done):

- Neck and bridge pickups changed to Dimarzio YJM, Hs3 repectively, bridge wired to tone knob.

- Refretted the entire neck with Jumbos.

- Brass nut installed.

- Middle pickup swapped out for original Fender American single coil

- Scalloped the entire neck.

*stuff i might want added on = EMG SPC

Les Paul:

- Dimarzio Air Norton, Steve's Special installed in neck and bridge.

- Push/pull for both tone knobs to individually split each hum.

- Epiphone Bigsby Trem installed.

- Scalloped entire neck

*stuff yet to be done = change machine heads to locking tuners, new wiring, LSR roller nut and bridge, knobs, mounting rings all to be changed.

There ya go.

Next on my list would be my RG1527. It's not gonna stay stock for long

Nope. I don't believe in that. Different priorities is the cause of differences
:p

I scrimp and save like a miser all year round, no movies, no going out, nothing. I'm just a damned house pig who accumulates his dough, and one it's grown big enough, I splurge it all at one go on my hobby :D

If you lived my kinda lifestyle, you sure as hell would be able to do all that kinda shit hehe.

Push Pulls are the greatest things ever and the scalloping also very yes. I would have shaven the neck down first though.

You mean the back of the neck? I suppose i should reveal the brand of my Les Paul now :D It's an Aria, one of those with a natural finish, with absolutely nothing painted on the back of the neck. So it's fast

Actually i prefer mini switches over push/pulls, faster rate of toggling them on/off.

If the only humbucker is in the bridge, how are u gonna split it with the push pull? still can split and do not affect the single coils?

Yea you could wire it up to split as well with push/pull. Either the inner coil or the outer coil. Even both, if you decide to install mini switches. You could even hook it up to go series and parallel. Lotsa things you could do.

damn cheem. what series and parallel? I mean if i make it push pull, it'll split my single coils as well is it? if kerna split then how it sound like?
