Hey peeps,
Thought i should share some knowledge for the first time since people i've dealt with have always requested that i put up some reviews. Oh well, i would if i had the time and currently, i have abit of time this week to do this one that i thought would be of interest to the softies around here. Definitely not my most expensive pedal, but i believe this one is of value of money. I played with it quite extensively, testing the tonal and drive variations that i got from it. I'd provide as detailed a descriptionon it and give a rating system at the end of it!
So here it is! Bought and ordered direct from Robert Keeley himself!
Spent about 2 wks with me and i sold it off to a nice gentleman recently!
Played through a Suhr Standard Custom (HSH config) into a Laney VC30 2x12 with Mogami gold plated cables.
Overdrive:
Well what would you expect? This pedal was made just for the blues genre, although some peeps may think that it should be able to cover the rock part of it, it just doesn't have the edge of it. Reason being the sound is too compressed and unlike edgier drives, this one brings your tone up with a warm bluesy touch. Extremely transparent although i wished that it could be less compressed sounding and with more edge to it.
However, i found a trick around it, krank up a tube amp (Laney VC30 for me) and your tone would stand out. Tried to use it as a boost as with all other pedals and it just didnt work out as well as my other boosters.
OD Conclusion: A transparent od capable of achieving low to mid gain od.
Tone:
As with my past experiences with Boss pedals, i was kind of expecting a one-trick pony in terms of tone. I was thinking of a tone that wouldn't vary much but i was proven otherwise! This baby achieved much more in terms of tonality. Firstly, no screechy knobs. Secondly there was a good audible change in treblish terms. Lastly, there was the switch which would boost the bass to give it a slightly more balanced tone. However, i still felt that it couldnt achieve the creamy tones from eric clapton that i wanted - There was too little mid and low end to achieve this.
Tone Conclusion: A good pedal if you're looking for simple transparent tones which may feel "open" sounding.
Misc:
The pedal can be powered up by a 1spot unlike those older boss pedals, and the whole pedal seems to be extremely hardy (as with all boss pedals).
Price: 179 USD (Since i ordered from him directly)
Value for Money Rating: 8/10
The value for money rating is what i've used to compare against the alternative od's that are in the same price region. Hope this would give people interested a better idea of what they're in for.
Alright, thats all for now, feedback on what i should include, what pedals you would want to see done up etc.
Just a heads up, if you feel that i'm wrong in any aspect of my review content wise, please remember that this is just a humble and unprofessional view from me.
Otherwise, please feel free to comment and discuss!
If feedback is positive, i'd probably do a review on a boutique range pedal next!
