Hi all 3000+ forumers who had read http://soft.com.sg/forum/all-about-singing/81513-not-suitable-sing-all.html

In that thread of mine, i had mention Daniel said I cant sing. It a fact that I were told I cant sing, singing is not my forte by some online members, as well as judge or peoples who had heard me.

I am wrong to misunderstood Daniel intention and include Daniel statement as supportive evidence, therefore being unfair to Daniel in my thread. What happen in the past situation were, Daniel told me to stop wasting my money to learn under him, due to another chance, Daniel suggest me to record some part of my singing for the higher levels SLS coach to listen. After some months, Daniel ring me and said: after some discussion with the rest, Daniel told me that he cant take me as his student, as he cant fix my voice and suggested that I go for speech therapy as well as singing is not my forte, and probably playing instruments would be better for me.

Daniel only said singing is not my forte, he didnt said I cant sing.

Sorry Daniel Singh.

The End.

It's very brave of you to write this jianrong, and I am sorry for bringing it up again.

Honestly I feel a bit silly as it's not that big of an issue.

I wish you all the best with your singing :)

jianrong, there's really no reason for you to apologise really. I think this whole protective issue about the reputation of SLS and its coaches has gone too far.

Btherl, I hope you will ease out on these topics a bit. It's normal and a healthy bane of motivation when a singer under coaching hears comments like that, how ever they wish to interpret it. It's normal for anyone starting out singing and it can set a degree of showing how much a singer loves singing enough to keep trying. It's a personal vocal exploration and we have no right to direct how it chooses to go.

We believe jianrong is still willing to try and at the end of the day, that is the only thing that keeps this humble subforum and its benefits of hearing from various singers coached under different techniques. He has had many many different ideas, since the last thread, to face his vocal issues, and it's up to him and not us to choose and try which ones to follow.

Like KhaiHan mentioned, if Daniel's reputation stands, a one time thing won't affect it.

Perhaps it would help to not mention the names of vocal coaches to avoid these in the future. :)

wow, those comments must hurt, coming from your very own teacher.

its great that you are taking it strong!
continue striving on!

Sage, if someone posted here saying that I told them that they can't sing, then I would correct them too. It's only common sense. I don't see why I would keep quiet and let people think that I said something I didn't.

Then if people kept repeating it, I would correct them again each time it was repeated. It's not about reputation, it's about accuracy. Please stop making this about "reputation".

Thanks :)

Just some suggestions on improving singing in no particular order, I just type it as it comes to my head.

1) Learn to listen to your voice. This will help to improve on your pitching. If you can play the piano/keyboard, use it to help improve pitching as well.

2) Work on the tempo as well, as from the 普通朋友 clip, it sounded a bit off (not sure if video is out of sync when uploaded to youtube). Probably tap your foot or pat your hand to help you get the right beat.

2) Choose songs suitable for your range. If you feel the song is too hard, then go for easier ones. Work your way up slowly.

3) Practise correctly, singing wrongly(forcefully) will damage the vocal cords and may reduce the ability to sing.

4) Get enough rest, drink enough water, eat less oily food - if you enjoy singing, you would want to make sure the body is optimsed.

5) I think what Daniel wanted to say was for you to work on your diction. Pronouncing the vowels clearly and correctly will improve your singing.

6) Singing in KTV doesn't really help improve your singing. If you're serious, you will need to practise those boring(I feel so) but essential vocalising exercises.

7) Stand up when you sing, and cultivate the right posture if you're beginning to learn. You want to start right and have a good habit.

And most importantly, have the right attitude and be patient. Those "talented" young singers usually start very young and have already had decades of practice before they get discovered, etc.
