MXR Dyna Comp Help Please

Hi folks,

Would like to ask anyone who have tried the MXR Dyna Comp before. Mine's the one with LED, model M-102.

Question is, i get this weird chugging sound when the pedal is engaged, regardless of the sensitivity set. If i turn the output further down it'll be too soft.

I know that 'noise' is common especially at higher levels of sensitivity. have tried a few other comps before. But thought this model i got sounded weird. haha.

Could anyone offer some help/advise.

Thanks!

Wanna put up some videos? Then it's easier to see. If you think it sounds weird, go and A/B it woth other Dyna Comps. And if you're absolutely certain there's a problem then send it to a techie.

If u disassemble the dyna comp by taking off all the knobs and screws to extract the pcb card u will be able to see a knob in the middle of the board, it is actually a potentiometer in which u may do adjustments to see whether it would help solve the problem, usually that potentiometer is set at noon position

this is what the pcb of the latest dyna comp looks like, the part that says piher spain is a potentiometer in which you may do adjustments with a screwdriver or swiss knife etc

I did my adjustments by taking out the pcb via taking out all the screws and then plugging it into the amp and playing with the dyna comp on making adjustments on the piher spain potentiomenter, i think it helped to enhance clarity for me.

I find the dyna comp to be quite noisy and the level knob is only usable from like 3pm to 4pm i.e. below 3 there is severe loss of volume, from 4pm to max volume there is not much change in the volume level.

But when you use it on a clean setting i find that it really brightens and warms up the tone quite abit, i think that about it for what the dyna comp can do hahahah, n probably what you can expect it to do for you

By chugging sound do you mean when you strum the strings you get a very squashed sound? I think thats what a compressor is supposed to do hahah. Btw i think the sensitivity knob also doesnt cause much variations.

For me i like that compressed sound as i feel that it cuts through better in a band setting

Hope you find it useful :D
