We have Yong Siew Toh for classical music, but there doesn't seem to be many local institutes that offer degrees in contemporary music (i.e pop, jazz and production etc). The few I know of are Lasalle and NAFA, both are which are not exactly "renowned" for their music degrees (not like Berklee of USA, or LCCM in London). In fact, from my observation, local musicians seem to flock to Berklee as "THE place" to learn music.
Do you think it is important to have a more established and recognised local education scene for contemporary music? I mean, there is School of Art, Design and Media for visual arts. There is a minute possibility of setting up an equivalent for music xD. Of course, there is always the argument that music cannot be "taught" in a school setting. Any thoughts on this?
(I'm thinking of working on this topic for a school project, and am kinda 'testing water' to see if it's a valid concern at all :S)
