MultiFX or pedals for SS amp

Hi everyone I am currently using a digitech rp350 multifx into a 15w ss amp with good cleans (crate flexwave) but I am thinking of building a pedalboard as I would like a more natural sounding distortion.

I would like some advice on whether it makes sense for me to buy an expensive boutique distortion pedal to use with my ss amp as I do not play at studios all that often. That being said, I do crank my SS amp quite a bit (loud enough that I can feel the bass on my torso) as my neighbours don't complain.

I was trying some high-gain pedals out and was extremely impressed by the xotic bb plus, fulltone distortion pro and shark mr big pedals. Crunchbox might be on my list to as the aforementioned pedals are quite pricey. The question is, does it make sense for me to purchase one of these for my pedalboard if I am mainly using it for home play?

Also, as most of the pedals are designed to be used with high-end tube amps, will they sound significantly different when run into my SS amp. The distortion I require is mainly high-gain saturation, I don't really care for mild tubish overdrive much.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

For your application, since you only require distortion, perhaps you should just get a high-gain distortion. With the right E.Q. settings, they can sound awesome and tube-like even on a solid-state amplifier. If you get a multi-effects, it is no point as everything else on the multi-effects other than distortion and cleans will be under-utilized.

If you need different tones and effects, I would suggest a multi-effects. I personally use multi-effects more often than single pedals because the band I perform with plays a wide range of genres, and I often need several different tones and effects on tap.

Cheers!
