Multi-Purpose Headphone?

Hi guys,
I'm interested in getting myself a headphone for silent practise on my guitar amp through the amp's headphone out. I also want to use the same headphones on my mp3 player if possible, so any recommendations?
Budget of around 100 if can... :|

Would be great too if I can get a list of what to look out for like specs, etc.in headphones that would fufil both purpose, so I can go hunt around in the market myself too :D

No need to hunt alone. Go to Jaben at Adelphi (next to Funan) http://jaben.net and they can recommend you based on budget and what kinda music you listen to.

If you don't need isolation, my favourite cheap and good headphones are the Koss PortaPro. The looks are a bit of an acquired taste though. If not, for closed back headphones, Audio Technica ATH M30 or M50 seems to have a good reputation around here. But best is to go to the shop and try, they're very accommodating and will help you out in every way.

Hey, carboxymoron thanks for replying to my thread here too :D

Just wanna ask ah, when you say they can recommend me a headphone based on music I listen to, would they also point me in the right direction if I say I'll be using it for amp practise? Cos using it to practise on my amp is higher priority than using the headphones for my mp3(got $20 earphones for that). Plus,I pretty much listen to any,and everything :| The thing I fear most is the quality when using it from my amp ...

It's hard to say cos they won't know what your amp's headphone output is like, whether the amp/speaker simulation is good. If a headphone sounds good with guitar-based music, then it just depends on whether your amp produces the same kinda guitar sound. I know this doesn't help much lol

Bah. If you want cheap, buy a lower end headphone. Don't support these "replica" makers. It's just a fancy way of branding fake goods. Also I wonder why the post hasn't been removed yet...

Yo guys, would it be safe to say actually, that all headphones, as long as I got 3.5mm jack, can be used for my amp headphones output? I mean, in that case, I'll probably just look for something reasonably priced, with specs that support a wide sonic range - so it can cover everything my guitar/amp dishes out I suppose?

Absolutely. I've used my 3.5mm jack headphones this way without a problem
