Multi EFX

Hey all... I play some acoustic guitar but I'm a total noob when it comes to electric guitars and gear. I'm thinking about buying an electric guitar soon and I'll need an amp as well. I forgot who it was but somebody recommended that I get a multi efx pedal instead. Please let me know if i have the basic idea right. You buy a guitar. You DON'T buy an amp. you plug your guitar into a multi efx thing. you plug that into your guitar. and you jam through your computer speakers? Is that the basic idea?

Yup, more economical for bedroom playing, and also because if you wanna record, you can record with the MFX's line-in instead of your computer's mic, so there'd be better sound quality recorded.

I personally don't like MFXs because of the inferior tone if played through an amplifier, but if you're gonna go direct into speakers, perhaps you'll enjoy better tone with MFX.

ah thanks. so basically i don't need an amp. and i can with headphones! sweet. it's live right? as i don't need to play into the thing and record it then play back wat i played right? i'm thinking about getting the Behringer XV-Amp for sale in the forums.

That I'm not sure... I own a Line 6 FloorPOD but never attempted recording with the Line-in. But I think it should be live, so you can hear what you're playing.

eh.. i didn't really understand that. but it should be so live so you can hear wat you're playing is all i need to know. i basically want to use the Behringer XV-Amp as an amp simulator and then plug in a pair of headphones so i can play in my room, on my headphones.

ok..i'll make things simple for u...

guitar>multi effects>headphones

it depends on whether your effector has a "phone" jack or not..

if there is, plug your headphones into it.. then u will have stereo sound.

but if your effector doesn't have the phone output, then u have to plug into your speaker output, which your headphones will only have a mono sound, which means only your LEFT headphone will have sound..the right will be muted.

there is a toy that u can buy to make your mono speaker output to become both sides.. means u have mono on both left and right.. but i'm not sure..

nothing to do with recording here.. dun get confused.. u get to hear your guitar sound immediately whether u plug into your speaker or phone jack.

i think u should really buy an amp.. just a cheap 10 watts amp also can.. with a good multi effects..can make any lousy amp sound good, or at least not so noob..

Hum but i'd go for the basics, Guitar->amp->Efx(multi-effects or single pedals)

But Multi Effects cuts your tone by ALOT and some Multi effects need to use it's branded power adapter u lose it, u must buy the branded one u cant use the universal adapters, so thats why i use single pedals, sounds better but to collect one by one would be abit expensive but at least if my distortion goes down i can always get new one to replace it and not effecting the rest of the pedals, but for Multi effects, once it has got prob or down the whole unit is down. :(
