from what i heard they had made electric guitar copies in the 70s and early 80s just before gibson clamped down for making them too close to the originals. in some rare reviews they said that the sound was comparable to a vintage gibson... i'm planning to get a morris PRS copy from the 80s that this guy was selling off for like $350 and just had a refret... i hope that this guy isnt putting me on cos that would be quite a sweet guitar to own.. Anyone even heard or morris making electrics or have any info about it? i tried an old old morris acoustic and man was it sweet

I have a Morris Hurricane strat copy and it's built like a tank. Heavier than most strats, and it comes with Gotoh tuners. I bought it second hand and didn't ask the seller when he bought it from. It's at least 2 to 3 years old, but still rock solid.

I also have a Morris Tornado Acoustic Electric (an Ovation copy) which I bought at City Music in 1986, It's made in Japan. Still going strong with it.

oh ok sounds good so far.. hows the workmanship and sound quality in general? and around how much did it cost you? comparing price

The Morris that I have has generally good worksmanship. The electric is built solid with a heavier wood than other strat copies. The hardware seems to hold very well. As I got mine second hand, the pickups were bad, so I had them changed to some unknown brand. I believe that if you were to put in a good set, it'll play wonders. The electric cost me $180 second hand.

As for the roundback, I bought it new in 1986 for $450. It also came with a hardcase. It is made in Japan. I have since changed the pickups too as the original set wasn't very good nor user friendly. You have to reach inside the sound hole to install/change the pickup battery. Now it's playing fine.

Hope that helps.

"Morris" is what you call a 'stamped' export brand.
They were made by Matsumoku, the same factory that built Aria, and were imported by City Music. They made all kinds of copies and were quite decent.
