Hello guys, I'm heading down to city music to try the electric guitar tmr..
Got a few more question to ask.

I wanna try the ST-130..

Then i read some threads, got set up all these..

What do I need to know? Other then test all the frets on the guitar for the sound:o

What does the set up means ?
What do I have to look out for other then the sound, the set up?

Need a lot help
Am a newbie to electric guitar :D but I'm a acoustic and classical guitar player though.
Wanna make sure my first electric guitar is cool and good to go:p

well there's alot of different types of setup, but basically its just a process to make your guitar all good for eg, inotations, adjusting truss rod, restringing, and it goes on.. but anyway since you're going to citymusic it's pretty much safe.. doubt there'll be any problems.
as to what you have to look out for its rather simple, just play it and if u like it yea pretty much that's it

ah.. okok..

eh, then then the effects pedal all these?

care to explain a bit ?

Actually for a start I wanna learn 东城卫 song..
Soundtracks from 终极三国, so I dunno what effects to get ?

For info
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VQFJWbZREY
This is the youtube link.. This guy name HarryTsai plays it, not me .. haha.. He's the only one covering this song on youtube.

Basically I wanna know some basic different between the effects?
Like distortion, delay ( i only know this 2 ) and what other are there?

What effects do I need for those rock songs?

Sorry if I asked a lot of question .. Need really lots of advice from pros ..

hold your horses man, pedals can wait man familiarize yourself with your guitar first..
it's hard to explain in words.. in which this case youtube would be your best friend anw for that link you gave me.. you just need some reverb, chorus, distortion or od (see which is to your liking)<-- correct me if im wrong
anyway here's a list of the more common efx just check it out on youtube and you'll kinda get the idea
distortion,overdrive,chorus,flanger,reverb,wah,comp,delay,octave

Set-up means to get it well, set-up, to play well.

When buying a new guitar, eyeball the physical condition. Look out for major scratches, dings, and so on. Adjust the tuning heads, lightly touch the pickup, ensure that none is too loose. Ensure there isn't too much crackling noise (meaning that the input jack might be loose) when you unplug the cable from the amp.

These are common problems on entry-level guitars. There are others, but I can't think of 'em now. I'll leave that to the other guys here. :)

For me, after giving it the good once-over, I'll get someone to play it, stand-back and listen.
This usually applies to acoustic gtr purchases and I find it handy too when picking electrics.

Theres just some stuff you cant spot when youre actually playing it.

Set up refers to the the salesman adjusting the guitar so that you can play it comfortably. E.g. would be if the guitar action is too high, you can tell the salesman that the action is too high and he will adjust it for you so that when you buy the guitar, you are able to bring back and play it comfortably..

hmmm btw the song u picked...abit tricky. not something u would have learned when playing on acoustic: the sweeping and tapping. but anyway, the only effects needed are chorus and distortion. the chorus is optional though, if ur amp has a reverb then it should do the job.

Good morning everyone! wa, so many things to look out !

The package that I'm going to get has the Spider IV 15 amp, I don't know if that has reverb?
http://line6.com/spideriv15-30/amps.html <- this is the webby but I'm not sure of their effects also.. they have what insane all these? someone help explain to me :D

So the set up is done by the sales assistant, then how do I know if the action is too high for me ? Cause I probably won't be playing songs but testing out the guitar there only..

Well in the meantime I go youtube check out those effects first x.x so many to see

Okay so here's the details for Spider IV 15 amp

15 watts; 1x8" custom speaker; three-quarter closed-back cabinet adds a tight, snappy response
4 dialed in amp models: Create and save 4 complete amp settings with amp model, EQ, gain and effect settings, and recall them with the push of a button
6 Smart FX based on celebrated stompbox and studio effects; tangy Chorus/Flange, swirly Phaser, expressive Tremolo, beautiful Tape and Sweep Echoes, and syrupy Reverb; 2 FX at once

So it means that the amp has chorus, flange, phaser, tremolo, tape, echoes and reverb fx in it ?

RIght on bro. An amp with built in efx. You can save alot on pedals this way. Good luck on your purchase!

I see i see.. that's cool. No wonder the amp is worth $205 ! omg.

Other guitar shop want to cheat me >< give me a $60 amp . Glad that I found this forum hehe.

Ok, so I only need to get distortion pedal for now ah.. Since quite a handful of songs that I need it.. Maybe won't get today, will do some research first.. Getting the guitar first..

More question .. Sorry for the trouble.

1) Any recommendation of good distortion pedal? No too expensive, average kind.. budget tight hehe.. but within $150 is ok. I'm willing to fork out.

2) I've heard of guitar polish thingy, to maintain the guitar body, is it needed for the weather in singapore? What should I know about maintaining the guitar body?

the spider IV 15watt amp is a good start for beginners.
Yes the amp has all the effects you stated.

However, all the effects are default and you cannot make any changes to it. Only the tempo. But It's more than enough for beginners. Once you advance on, then you'll find the need to get proper multi-effects pedals or individual pedals.

as for Clean/Crunch/Metal/Insane, it's just the 4 different channel memory for you to save your presets. the salesperson will definitely explain to you. so don't worry.

ah i see.. then later get the sales person explain to me.. haha.
like a bugger walao. :x ask so many question..

Then my 2 question 2 more 2 more :D

$150 is quite a lot. You can check out standard value for thei Beta Aivin and Boss dist/overdrive pedals..

Guitar polish? I don't know I just know it helps to clean away fingerprints.. Maintaining guitar body? Keep it in your bag when not in use to prevent unnecessary damage to it..

Question 1, same as before getting your guitar.. go test it out first.. the golden rule is always if u like it then buy it :)
2, regarding polishing i would recommend a familiar in soft, doctor duck's axwax you can find it in both the sv outlets and yes it really is good, works great for me.. clears the dirt and sweat on your guitar and slows down the rusting rate for your strings.
anyway basically just try not to leave your guitar out in the open when your not playing for several reasons, dust, oxidation & rusting
most players would clean their guitar after each time they play but.. personally i find it a trouble haha clean it every few days and you'll be fine :)

Bro have you buy the guitar yet?
Personally, i have played guitar for donkey years now and more like the rhythm till one day i tell myself to get up and start learning solos... yeehaa..
i got myself a craftman gs300 the highest end of the craftman which comes with wilkinson pickup and grover tuners!!
Getting used to electric guitars is a new world to me. Get used to the machine first and tame it down like a horse before slurging anything else.
CM is a decent good store for beginners to start with and worth every cents.
Just my two cents of thoughts...
