Hi bros, I got a big problem for playing the fast riffs of metalcore songs, like both palm mutin and downstroke the powerchords, for example the ROse of Shayn by Killswitch engage, always stuck or feel that arm r tired , and still hard to catch that speed or fall behind, is just becoz something wrong with the way of I holdin pick? and even for playin and sweepin fast single notes, sometimes get stuck 2, confusing.. BTW I realised my fingernail is damn wide, is that matter? Thanx!

It takes time for the Rifff to Sink into ur muscle Memory. keep repeating the riff and i'm sure u will get it.
practiceing a riff is like practicing chord changes.

to play a fast riff, start at a slow tempo. once u get it right slowly increase the tempo. u can get a metronome to help u with it. it takes time to build up speed and dexterity so do not rush.

For better speed and accuracy, try using a smaller pick with a sharp tip (e.g. Jim Dunlop Jazz III)? But of course practise and start slow, and slowly speed up from there like the others have said. Nothing beats practice.

Haha I have one but I don't use it often because it's kinda hard on my strings. But it's the one pick that doesn't fly out of my hands haha.

thanx bro, nice to see ya again, but for the pick, now I use the DOALOP M1 , its smaller than normal one, is it good for buildin up speed?

Building up speed.. Definitely practise, but you could use a heavier (i.e. thicker) pick so that when you switch to a lighter pick later on, you'll find it much easier.

Why not start on a less complicated song.Having played the song you attempted,I feel its not a good song to start off with techniques. They verse isnt easy, let alone the chorus.

So i suggest you play a song that can challenge your dexterity.Doesnt always have to be a metal song.Playing songs other than metal doesnt mean you're a loser so take your time to get used to the technique.

thanx dude, so what songs u suggest to start off ? btw I used to play alot of punk

Don't Play Punk with me boy! lol
(ignore the first sentance)

Hmm simple plan is considered punk right?

Maybe try their songs?

Then its a wise idea to perfect that genre.I used to play lots of MCR and A7X stuff when they were producing their best musics. You can take a look at their songs and try playing them.

You'll get a rough idea of the technique needed to play.
