mesa boogie

I have the Mesa F-30 combo, I haven't really experienced humming and weirdo sounds with this amp. Its really a superbly versatile amplifier. I didn't get the F-50 as it uses 6L6 tubes and the cleans on the EL84 equipped F-30 are much better IMO and it saturates much easier for gain. It can do any style, blues to jazz to metal. Really a monster amp... I much prefer the Vintage 30s speakers to the normal Mesa Blackshadow speakers used...

hey dudes,i wanna buy a mesa boogie F-30,anyone can tell me where can i find it in singapore?:)

Welcome to Soft! :)

You can find them on classifieds here once in a while. Otherwise, you could probably find NOS in the States and carry or ship back. There are better amps for the money since it's not 2004 and there are more choice nowadays.

You might want to start your new thread next time round. It's good forum etiquette. :)

mesa's are pretty much one trick pony's. IMHO.
overpriced, difficult to have them repaired locally, basically ur paying for the brand.
get a ceriatone instead. or get a rack.

+1 for ceriatone. support made in asia!!

but seriously, search youtube for the ceriatone demos... all over the world... it's really amazing and impressive.

and affordable too...

Martin Audio is in Burlington Square. i get tubes from over there. i can't recall now but the last i changed my tubes for my single ended amp (1 tube each for preamp, poweramp and rectifier) they cost me about $80-90

she does stock up quite alot of JJ, EHX, Sovtek, Tung Sol... but she stock them up for Hi-Fi Audio... yet, same same but different...

Freight usually will cost at least $300.

The F30 is replaced by the 5:25/5:50 Express series. My suggestion is for you to find an alternate amp since it will be an extremely complicated process. For the same amount to acquire an F30, you can get some really sweet amps.

Mesa makes more than just hi-gain amps. If Mesa's are as mentioned being one trick pony, then every other major player in the amp business (except modeling amps/racks manufacturers) essentially makes one trick ponies too. IMHO.

Overpriced here? Yes. We have no dealer and the few dealers in the region are selling at somewhat ridiculous price. Overpriced elsewhere? Not really.

I sure feel old looking at my last replies on this thread being in 2004.

+1 to thread diggers, extensive search functions and large databases.

A rack? Isn't THAT overpriced then a solid Lonestar or F30? Tone wise I'll pay for the Mesa and keep it for the rest of my life. I'll break first then the Mesa.

And IMHO Mesa's are not at all one trick ponies. People gotta look beyond just what you see in glossy music magazines and what Picking Futts or Crapvelle or whatever modern band and their Triple Rects. They do have other outstanding products.

Lifehouse & breen: my point in it being overpriced, is that IT IS OVERPRICED HERE IN SG. prices elsewhere will definitely be better, regardless it being guitar or amps or pedals. but not everyone has the opportunity to use their parent's credit cards to purchase stuff online.

ive had to email mesa and inquire abt changing transformers to local voltage. guess how much they quoted? 1/3 the price of my ex-mesa boogie 50 calibre plus. luckily, ceriatone's nick managed to make a suitable hand made transformer for the mesa, worked really well, and only cost less than $100USD.

racks can be more versatile, and you could actually have your own set-up, based on being able to mix n match your pre-amps and power amps. and judging from the fact that racks aren't so popular nowadays, you could see them going for ridiculous prices. there was a marshall jmp-1 going for like less than $500, pedalitis should know abt this. my friend got his ada mp1 for $250.

im not basing my judgement on what i see on the glossy papers, i've seen, tried, played in gigs using mesa's before. i feel that for a mesa to shine, IT HAS TO BE MODDED. certain changes must be done (i.e. putting a 12at7 instead of a 12AX7 on the first stage of the pre-amp to clean up the dirt nicely, treble bleed mod, etc etc.).

unsane: hehe ur lucky to have the triaxis. im gonna steal it one of these days. hahaha

+1 to the above post

+1 to Ceriatone amps

mesaboy where are you...or should i say orange!

I agree with the points I did not quote.

Nevertheless, I think whether a Mesa needs to be modded is somewhat subjective. But I definitely don't agree that all Mesas need to be modded in order to shine. Do I think my Mesa Lonestar needs to be modded? No. Do I think certain Mesas can benefit from being modded? Yes. Will my next amp be a Mesa? Not necessarily. Ceriatone and other smaller manufacturers probably appeals to me more. To each his own.

As much as I'm disgusted by kids using their parents' credit card to make expensive purchases, we can't deny the fact that a substantial percentage of forum members are holding a job and make their own purchases.

well ur entitled to ur own opinion as well. mesa's just dont appeal to me anymore. and the fact remains, so many better amps with a cheaper price tag around nowadays.
