The Cat Empire hail from melbourne, and if you wanna know a bit more about the Australian music scene, do come down to the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre.

The band plays a funky mix of cuban-styled jazz and hip hop.. it's pretty laid back and refreshing! i fell in love with their sound while im studying in perth, and would catch them if i was only going back earlier.

but yeah! if you're in the mood for some good vibrations, and tip top musicmanship, spend a cool evening of good music with the cat empire. you won't be disappointed.

you can check their music out on their website

the event is free! so that's a pretty cool incentive too!

What's wrong with playing often on TV and Radio? Their music IS mainstream friendly.

Anyhoos, this is a must go. One very creative band.

as much as we dislike certain bands on the radio (hence not listening to it at times helps), it is one of the main outlets to get your music heard by the masses. you think the success of some of our local heros was done without the support of local media? -)

wow..Cat Empire was so good! they didn't have to ask the crowd to stand and dance and people are already dancing to their 3rd song. nice fusion of Latin, Soul, Gospel, Funk and Jazz... even their merchandise table sold out most of their stuff including the CD. Very talented musicians all of em!

Yea, they were awesome. I suspect a significant part of the audience were Aussies, they seem to know every song!

One of the vocalists really caught my attention. Not only could he sing pretty darned well, he could rap and beatbox and play the trumpet - all very well. Oh, and he wore a Batman shirt. ;)

Great band.

haha..yeah..it's either they were aussies or they were once at aussie studying and caught these guys at gigs.

and ooh..batman dude!
the trumpeter is a natural performer on stage. he was runnin here and there sharing mics with all of his mates.lol.
