anyone can recommend guitarists/bands who play medieval style acoustic guitar music? the kind of music you can imagine being played by bards in medieval taverns. i believe this genre is called "renaissance"?

i only know of blackmore's night.

i believe this genre is called "renaissance"?

Sorry mate, but I believe the Renaissance refers to a cultural movement that started in the 14th century?

Maybe you're referring to genre(s) of music that is influenced by the Renaissance era? A lot of European folk music has medieval influences though.

Blackmore's Night has music that is intriguing. :D

Okay, I don't think they're in anyway acoustic but there are metal bands like Equilibrium with traditional German folk music and Suidakra with Celtic folk music.

thanks for the info, guys. yeah i guess it's called "renaissance era music" instead of "renaissance genre". if we are to put this kinda music into a genre, i guess it will be "folk". very folksy in nature and medieval in feel/mood. "medieval folk" perhaps. traditional songs like "Greensleeves" are good too.

there's this band called "elven king" which plays folksy stuff but i couldn't get into that, the vocals is one reason. blackmore's night stuff are superb though.

check out Iona, awesome Celtic music band. the singer is amazing and the music is hauntingly beautiful.

recently started listening to celtic, haha.

Hmm.. the only band i have listened to and sounds similar to elvenking would be Orphaned Land. They're a jewish folk metal group from Israel. Sounds like Sonata Arctica turned folk.

Orphaned Land produces good music. :D But they don't sound very medieval. They sound very Middle Eastern-like. Reminds me of Melechesh and Salem.
