Mastering Studio

How on earth does he look at his computer screen. :) It's 5 feet away from his face and half obscured by the desk... but yeah - impressive stuff. Why does the gear differ so much (not knowing much about mastering...)?

Most of the time, mixes are out processed on external hardware. Most of time they depend on the outboard gear to do eq,compression....etc.So the computer screen don't matter a lot to them. I never step into mastering before so don't know all the behind work stuff. Mastering gears tend to be state of the art equipment as they build toward precision. That mean a mastering studio can hear more than a recording studio does. So beside making all the song to be sound "as from one place". They also show detail on mix that you may want or tried to get rip of it. Of cos, there a lot of reason you could find on the net.

I do "mastering" for gigs mmos, so that I spend less time and effort on the MMO part and concentrate on other part during live operation.
