marshall amp

personally... i tried a few valve states.. and i didnt like them at all ... in my opnion.. fender makes good solid states... followed by peavey.. but the newer peavey stuff kinda gives me the impression they are toys.. very plastic.

if u looking for an amp upgrade.. perhaps must work on a budget?..
like ask questions like .." my budget is ...$XXX what amp is available out there etc. "

haha sorry for blabbering. valvestate sucks in my opinion.

it's a good entry-level but i'd rather you consider the Spider2 15. combo (about $299) which has very good default distortion if you are into lots of drive...

anw i prefer using dist pedal....so wat solid state amp u recommend subversion,lifehouse,chanmin....ok my budget < $350

Valvestates have a place of it's own. Marshall built amps where the clean channel feels to have more drive and colored tone. So it's either you love it or you don't.

Only thing is that due to recent developements that makes Marshall a status which is it's branding itself push the price up very high for Valvestate, JCM and above models.

My take is that it's not value for the money. The money is paid more for the brand itself.

seeing that you will be using a pedal..to achieve your distortion. u should get an amp with decent cleans. personally i used to have a fender princeton 65. sold it for around 400 bucks.. so if you can find one now... might be around your budget... other then that... the peavey Bandit is a workhorse and a good sounding amp too.

All these are fitted 1x12speakers... anything smaller might risk sounding small..and abused when cranked loud. a Trade mark 10 is a small amp id say delivers the goods... its basically a GT-2 pedal with a 10 inch speaker... u can get great distortion tones from that small box.and you can even use it as a preamp for recording ...etc..etc... but id say its not very cheap..
Tech21 stuff all kinda exx. For home use ..id recomend above 15 watts - solidstate.. unless you need to play really softly... but.. you would be better off with headphones.

scout around at www.luthermusic.com etc... classifieds.. to get 2nd hand deals.. $350 should get you a decent amp... but its definitely gonna be 2nd hand.

Another vote for Trademark 10. Other options would include the Vox AVT series and of course the Roland Cube 30 (Very good clean for a Solid State).

as most folks might know, i am a firm supporter of the Roland Cube 30. might just get a zakk overdrive to give me mroe on the sonic palate but just the stock sounds alone still blows me away. and it sounds huge. its modelled after R'fiers and 5150's for starters. not to mention the all time sweet JC Chorus. try it. i'd dare say best buy of the year. imho of course. cheers.

I'm getting a JCM DSL 800 amp head for my birthday ..... Can't wait .... They are good, worth the money .... But abit ex ....

For tube amps, after hearing some THD clips, I have to conclude they are easily one of the best in the industry. It pretty much does nail some classic Marshall sound.

PS: JM can you post some THD soundclips.. :smt003

how much roughly is the peavey bandit...don mind if is 2nd hand

hmmm mikemann.. u know anot?... lol

heehee... Yeah you know I am a fan of this particular model ah??
Hahaha......I have 5pcs of the Bandit current edition (transtube 2) And 1pcs of the 90's edition (Made in USA). These I use exclusively for my studios, live gigs, and rentals.

New Bandit at sweelee list at $830. A bit steep for a 1X12 but the range of sound you can get outta these baby, its worth it. The sound is really GOLD, you are talking about performance in pratically the whole range of tones (you must know how to use it lah).

'Used ones' I put it at about $400-500 is ok consumer price.

When I was a teenager, when I went to the jamming studio, what caught my eyes was a Peavy Bandit 65 (yeah 65watts only long time ago), it was super loud and the sound can cut through the walls. And the size is like a midget agmonst those 4X10 or 4X12, output can rivals them. The tradition is still alive and well.

ouch..didnt know it was 800+ ...thats kinda steep man...can get 2nd hand 5150...

well another amp i knew of was the Laney lc15 and lc15r (reverb) selling for around $450 brand new back then.. its a 15watt tube amp. can drive a 4x12. i so wanted to buy that as my first tube amp... but that was like...3 yrs ago?...maybe 4?.. dunno now still got these babies anot... imagine man...... cranking the 15watt bitch thru a 4x12 with a ts-9.. ooohmmmmp.
