Make your frets shiny

Dear all, can any one advise how to make your fret wires shining again with a fast and easy way? Does using brasso helps?

I would use autosol rather than brasso if i really wanted to clean the frets, but then i think such polishing compounds are rather invasive on the frets and it may erode away some of your fret life in the process of polishing. If u do use autosol/brasso use as minimal as possible because it doesnt take much to remove the dirty layer. And try to wipe away all of the remaining residue left on the frets until the frets dont feel slippery or oily, if not i find the frets get dirty very easily after that

The planetwave paper like zesn recommended is quite safe for cleaning frets too :D

Well... first you need to put your left foot out and then you gotta put out your right foot, shake it all about. Do the hokey pokey, and this is important - turn yourself around. Followed by the first quarter of the macarena - this is extremely crucial that you do ONLY the first quarter of the macarena. Any more and it's gone.

Okay you come this far; what you gotta do now is head down to any of these fine local establishments (who are all listed distributors of Planetwaves products) and see if they have stock:

City Music
Davis
Luthier
Swee Lee
Ty Music

Remember not to neglect a single step! This ancient wisdom was passed down from ye old philosophers like Google-fucious and Planetwaves.com-decious.

(trolololololololo...)

I never looked back after using these, Gorgomyte.

it is THE product to make your frets all shiny again and truly shiny! Almost effortless, just a little rubbing and wiping, everything's good as new! Non-abrasive means you don't have to go all taping your frets.

It not only cleans your frets but if you have anything around that needs polishing, just use these and they'll shine like diamonds again. No kidding.

Nothing beats it, i've used PW fret polishing cloths which are essentially just super fine grade sandpaper (still abrasive mind you) and what not but these smacks everything hands down.

Anyone of you who loves shiny frets should try it!

May i know where did you buy this product that you are mentioning? Or did you order it online??

I got it online. Don't think anyone retails it in Singapore. I prob can get one for about $25 or so. Shipping's not cheap.

1 piece of the cloth is suppose to be for 10 applications/guitars but I find you can go more than that.

People who recommend Planet waves fret polishing paper knows that it is 8000 grit sand paper right?

As long as your are polishing your frets shiny, you are in actual fact "sanding" the top layer away. It is shiny because it has microscopic scratches so fine that it reflects light that seems shiny to our eye.

Brasso is abrasive. Does it take away fret life? You will probably wear out your fret from playing before you notice brasso takes away fret life. Unless you start polishing now with brasso and not stop for the next 1000 years maybe. That may wear out your frets totally... or not.

brasso works. if it seeps into the rosewood board, just clean it out with lemon oil. for unfinished maple, remember to tape up the exposed wood.

Steel wool... Cheap and good. Or your momma might have some in the kitchen.

If using steel wool, please becareful of the powdered bits that come off. If it falls onto your skin, dont attempt to swipe it off. It will get stuck INSIDE your skin and it is dam difficult to remove.

Yup, thanks. Should've included this too. Use a small paintbrush to wipe off the remains. Those things could get stuck like thorns under your skin. Then you'll need tweezers; which your momma might have too... Lol.

Agree with Both ~!
But would also recommend using masking tape to pretect the fretboard.

Dun mind me asking.... why is there a need/want to have shiny frets ?
