Make Any Pickup Active with Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Preamp

Marketing mambo jumbo. It's called an active onboard preamp. Bass players been using systems like this forever. To be anal, as long as the preamp isn't built into the pickup itself, its still a passive pickup. Passive pickups with active preamp != Active pickups.

Didn't they already have something similar called the "Firestorm Boost"? EMG also has something similar and I'm sure there are other similar products out there from other manufacturers as well.

where can i get firestorm boost?.. i saw an EMG afterburner @ davis, but its a pushpull pot and reviews say it only boost much on cleans.. i want an onboard booster for solos any recommendation? will these BlackoutModularPreamp color your pickup tone?

guitarfetish? ill have to order online?.. that sucks.. i havent really sean much retailed firestorm, i wonder where they are now.. PA2 fro memg seems to be a good option too just a small toggle switch..

Yeah GFS have to order online. But their products are really cheap and good quality, all things considered. Unfortunately haven't tried the preamp boards, only their pickups

The way it works is precisely what makes the Blackouts have lower noise, and more dynamic range than previous active pickup designs, and what caused all the stir when we released Blackouts. Having that available in the control cavity has very little in common with a simple boost or eq. In fact, if you want your guitar to sound exactly like it does now, only louder and buffered by the active circuit, the Firestorm is your best bet.
Hmm interesting..

thanks.. if there arent any they ill guess il go for emg afterburner and tweak it for a separate on-of switch..
