Maestro SD-1: That good?

Hey guys how's it going?

So my previous acoustic was an Ovation copy. I loved it - it seemed too good for it's price... Clear ringing highs and powerful bass. Most importantly, the guitar had good throw - the sound just flew out of the guitar, and many were really impressed with it. Unfortunately, the guitar must have fallen on its back, and the neck split into two. So I went around Peninsula looking for a cheaper alternative that would satisfy my otherwise unreasonable requirements (I had previously emailed City Music to ask for Ovation quotations).

I am a lefty, and as I was given that guitar, I had it fixed to flip it round to the left. But I do believe that the physics were slowing damaging the guitar. So this time I'm adamant in only looking for lefty-crafted guitars, which quite inevitably led me to Maestro's only left hand model, the SD-1. I was stunned when I tried it out - this type of craftsmanship for 200+?? But I suspected something, and my friend confirmed it later without me even asking about it. He told me that Maestro guitars normally sound out of this world in their shop, because think about it. Except when necessary to do otherwise, their whole shop is a freaking wood house. In addition, the many guitars hanging on the wall (wood again) all have sound holes. And strings. Which effectively creates a subtle but ultimately tangible double resonance effect on played guitars - a setting you're unlikely to see ever again unless you're that much of a guitar/wood freak at home, and no way in hell at gig or concert venues.

SO. After all that loso. My question is - is the SD-1 as good as it sounds? Keeping in mind my criteria (good bass, rich mid/high, good sonic throw), would you say it's the ideal guitar for me? Or would I have to save more money (againnn) to get the Takamine idontevenknowwhatmodel lefty in Davis?

By the way, I've done my homework and I know there are plenty of ED-2 evangelists here. My friend has an ED-2 and I've heard it and played it and the tone is mouth-watering and to a certain extent loud but to me it sounds seriously trapped inside the guitar body. I do think though that if my friend adds the pickup unit, his guitar will become imba. And in any case, the guy at Maestro (excellent customer service btw) say they only have one lefty model anyway, which is the SD-1.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts guys. Stay healthy enough to rock on kay. \m/
