Would like to know your thoughts regarding Maestro guitars ? [Budget 2-3k SGD range, so we are discussing regarding full solid wood models].

How is the:
Tone ?
Build quality ?
Playability ?
Most importantly, worth the money ?

Thank you for your feedback !

theres a seller in malaysia, ive had some time to try various models at an event. the guitars are good and i reckon very high quality tone, build quality etc etc.

HOWEVER

worth the money is a touchy subject, the guitars as im lead to believe are made in china. which kinda puts some question to the price. tehre are heaps of western builders that make the same guitar for almost the same price. ie :lakewood

so if you dont mind where teh make is, its a good guitar, but if you ask me i prefer to get something else

What sort of tone are you looking for? The Maestro custom series do have some solid guitars which are quite worth the money. I personally nearly bought a walnut SJ for myself. If you're looking for exotic wood, they're probably the cheapest you can get. To be completely honest, they sound good but workmanship isn't as good as certain other brands in that price range - Think Martin, Taylor and the likes.

Do you need a pickup? They have the LR Baggs Anthem as an option and that is a killer pickup system. I have one of those in my Goodall CJC because I was so impressed by the Anthem on a Collings CJ that I sold and still miss :'(

There are certainly more value in the used market if you don't mind. I personally prefer the Martin tone over Taylor. There are a lot of choices in that range and if you're looking to spend 3k, do a bit of research, try as many guitars as you can to know your tone before pulling the trigger. ;) Good luck!

I would like a tone similar to the 714CE (but its out of my budget, LOL) and yeah, I do need a pickup, heard about the LR baggs anthem, which is amazing. =D and thanks for ur comments

Hello, i'm quite surprised you still haven't decided! Though its good that you're doing research and trying to be absolutely sure before you part with your precious load of cash :)

I've found the cheaper Maestro models to be an acquired taste (probably due to the exotic woods; i'm a mainstream kind of guy, and i've found most guitarists i've met to be similar). Maestro is highly thought of because its the first successful fully local music instrument chain. Not to slight them in the least; but i think some of the higher end models tend to suffer from a lack of consistent QC across the entire instrument. I've handled some custom Maestro models in the price range you're at that had stellar finishing on the body..........but the neck finishing was substandard. I've also heard (though not seen personally) about some truss rod and neck issues even with their 2-3k guitars. Not that it can't be fixed, nor that it actually happens, but i do tend to get worried when rumours like these surface, because these same issues are unheard for other brands at the same price range (or maybe i'm just not listening widely enough).

If you like the tone, and find a good piece, go for it. Important thing is to buy the piece you've tried and are satisfied with. Lakewoods are also good to consider; i recently heard a 2014 M32CP with an Anthem installed; it sounded pretty seasoned (maybe ToneRited?) and sweet. Luther has them, and i recommend you go take a look (if you haven't already). Cheers!
