hi guys, wonder if you have encountered having the music in your head/heart, but no words for them?

i have the opposit, having the words, but not music.

what would you do?

i always build my songs around a theme that develops as the song progresses, the focus is always on the music, the words always come later for me, but because I create the music to feel like something, the words and thematic imagery flow very easily.

when writing songs i choose to explore both ways , lyrics first then melody,
or either melody first then lyrics. but i find the latter easier for me.
if you happen to write out the lyrics first, just pick up a guitar, play some chord progressions, just sing aloud as you strum , helps a lot (:

and actually, a lot of people do come up with songs by having the lyrics first (:so fret not

Come up with a couple of nice riffs that go with each other. Come up with very basic chord progressions. Put those together and sing along. Come up with something really basic. Once you're comfortable with the basic melody, edit it with more vocal dynamics and arrangements. That's what I usually do.

I get stuck when I try to make it musically-colourful. So keep it basic, get comfortable, then give it some punch.

Hope this helps.

Try 'pretending' to sing the lyrics with a melody lor, just random random here and there and you'll get something you'll love.

hmm...i will try 'hamtam' a few chords and 'tee kum' here and there a little.
thanks guys!
