Hey guys, anyone know by any chance where can i get Ludwig or Premier snares? Or if there's anyone selling please feel free to tell me as well. Thank You!

Pretty sure I've seen premier snares at Swee Lee. Not sure about Ludwig, but since they hold ludwig drumsets they might have some ludwig snares too. Not many, though, since they mainly like pearl and tama snares.

I do have a Ludwig Supraphonic 400 brass snare, but not for sale as of now. I got it used from ebay, with no hoops as they were rusted. I believe ebay is your best option, or go to Nigel (drumsresources.com) for him to order for you (need I say he is one great guy?). Seriously, he will help you as much as he can.

About premier, SL have the hammered brass, I guess is sounds good, hopefully, because it looks very beautiful to me.

Off topic:
I can attest that supra's really sound great. I got an aluminum one before and the crisp sound is amazing. I do wonder why people never noticed that aside from the seamless shell, its wide flanged bearing edge is ONE OF THE FACTOR for its great sound. Ask around, you will see that the bearing edge flange of Supras are wider than any other snares.

Good luck on your snare hunting.

That's interesting, about the bearing edge. Got photos and measurements?
Now some photos for comparison, it is very evident, Im referring to the snare side.

But what puzzle's me now is if batter side of the previous one I sold (aluminum) has the same width as the snare side.

Off topic Composer: Want to let go of the snare case of your warlord snare?

I've got a Premier Artist Birch that's available. It used to belong to a friend, and its been with me for so long I decided to just buy it to make things 'accountable' between us. Check it out in the link in my sig.

Not suitable if you're looking for a mintish pristine piece. Although this one's a player, it's still quite the looker.

Snare

Thank you all. I will stop by at swee lee soon. And sorry, but i'm not really interested in your premier artist birch snare sorry, so sorry. I don't mean any insult or anything. I'm so sorry, weck-lx. Yeah, i've heard so much about Nigel. Guess i should really contact him some day.

Sorry if it seems that I have hijacked this thread.

hey no, thought it was all good. the info on the ludwig supraphonic's bearing edge is cool.

lennat and jasper (jeepers) has one too, if i rem correctly?

i had the chance to play on a roger's kit with steel snare before.. a pity the owner (a old time singer) wanted the entire kit even though it was old and rusty. nigel was gonna do a restoration job on it...

The flange is interesting. I'll take photo for comparison also:

The spartan's flange is about 2cm wide, the steel snare is about 1cm. I never realized there was this much difference between steel snares until you pointed out. Didn't think it can affect like this. What about the angle too?

LOL we should push this to a new thread xD anyway, my warlords don't have case. I want the case too!

plainsman: I thought so too! So I asked sweelee about it. I got my valkyrie off the shelf, so I figured that it would have a case that I didn't buy that time and I asked if they still have and I could buy. Apparently what they said is that they don't import cases for all of them. Only the display room sets. They told me that if I wanted the case, I'll have to special order from Japan- so I didn't bother. But if anyone locally wants to sell, I would want it! It looks so much more classy carrying that around.

So like for example, at the aljunied branch there's the praetorian warlord snare on a snare stand for display, and there's another spartan on the shelf. If I'm not wrong the praetorian has a case with it (I think I saw the case on the floor next to the stand), but the spartan on the shelf won't have.

OT:

Composer, I believe the Alumninum Supra, same with Ludalloy shells, have wider flange for the top bearing edge, as compare to the brass one I have now. That is, if I remember correctly. I believe this flange strongly affect the sound of the snare as it changes the flow of sound (vibration) against the head.

I will try to measure my Athenian's bearing's flange.
