WHO WE ARE -
We are a synth-player, bassist and drummer who are coming together to form a live HOUSE MUSIC band.

So, we are looking to play music that people usually associate with DJs and with clubs, particularly soulful house, french house and chillout house aka "beach house" - funk-based and groove-heavy stuff. The aim is to play at clubs and house music events, at events like ZoukOut, but with a LIVE BAND and with ORIGINAL music.

WHO WE NEED -
We have a synth player, a drummer and a bassist, and are looking for a vocalist and are looking for:

(1) a vocalist;
(2) a second synth-player (who preferably can also play funk/disco rhythm guitar) or guitarist;

though we are also open to having the following join us:
(3) electronic musician (who is familiar with ableton live etc.) to sequence and to add live samples and loops; and
(4) a sound engineer / music technician.

You would ideally be familiar with funk, soul, house (Electro, Detroit, French, Soulful etc), and have some interest in song-writing and arranging. We are looking to form a core production unit who will also perform, but add other musicians perform with us on a modular/sessionist basis (guitarists, horn players, string players etc).

For (2), if you are a guitarist, your role will be to play REPETITIVE and mainly-percussive RHYTHM guitar based on funk music. This is not a lead guitar role. There will be zero chance of shredding and little or no guitar solos, and you have to be prepared to play a supporting role. If you don't know who people like Nile Rodgers or James Brown (or James Brown's guitarists) is, please go find out first.

We are looking primarily at interest, commitment and attitude, and less on technical ability, though you should be able to sing, play or engineer / set-up equipment or sound, well enough.

Even if you're a bassist or drummer, please contact us anyway, we could form a collective of sorts and maybe help you set up a side project.

OUR AIM -
The band's aim is to get ppl to:
(1) chill out with down-tempo / after-hours sounds, and
(2) dance to high tempo soulful and french house music.

See below for our influences.

RATIONALE -
We believe that there is a huge and currently un-met demand for original house music performed by a live band and we wanna create and fill this niche. There're very few bands in the world that do this; 99.99% of the time, such music is played by DJs. If you know of any other band already doing this, please let us know, so we can expand our circle of influences and learn more.

In Sg and the region, there are some live electronic music musicians (playing originals) around, and also some electronic music bands (playing covers), but what we aim to do is wholly different from these, as much as quite a few of them are very good.

We love good DJs, but feel that even good DJs can sometimes get boring to watch, and that nothing can replace the sight and experience of music that is played live and in the moment. It won't be easy to have a live band be able to nail that "club sound" and give people the uncontrollable urge to dance, and with well-written music, but we're gonna give it a real go.

Hi all,

Have received encouraging responses to our ad.

Please write to us even if you play an instrument that we've already got covered (i.e. keys, bass and drums); we may be able to help you find like-minded musicians to jam with in any case.

The people who'll reply to this post are those who are looking to play something other than rock or pop - something groove-based (funk, disco, soul, acid jazz, trip hop, downtempo etc) and it's generally not easy to find like-minded ppl to jam with - so, maybe we can put together a collective to help each other out.
