Linux for home studios?

I'm thinking about switching to Linux. Ubuntu studio to be exact. The software it comes with is great but I'm a bit worried about hardware compatibility. Anybody have any experience?

I tried Linux, but failed to understand. But I used Unix base computer everyday.

I've been doing lots or research and appearently, lots of brands don't really support Linux. There are 3rd party drivers out for certain models so I'll just go with those I guess.
