Hmms, just wondering which brand of les pauls do you prefer and why?, apart from Gibson. Burny, Epiphone or Tokai.

well I like heritage and orville because I feel they are the closest to the gibson lespaul feel and tone wise. Heritage was formed by ex gibson staff and orville was sort of a gibson japan kind of thing.

IMO, tokai although more ex would give you the closest feel to a gibson. the finishes and workmanship is superb on the made in japan models

Hi jennajunkers,

Will give me 2 cents worth here. But please understand this is based purely on personal opinion. All guitars in reference are the MIJ type.

Tokai : As mentioned earlier, this have a very close feel to a Gibson. Tonewise I feel it's slightly different from a Gibson and by this I don't mean to imply it's anything inferior. :) Excellent workmanship and finishing. I may be wrong, but it's neck profile mimics Gibson's 50's profile.

Burny : Like the Tokai, this also has close specification to a Gibson's design. Burny definitely has a unique signature interms of tone. Burny uses their own VH-1 pickup which was very extensively R&Ded. Also comes with excellent workmanship. So far the many Burny that I have used before follows Gibson's slim 60's neck.

Orville and Orville by Gibson : Well, if you want a copy as close to a Gibson as possible, then this is it. It is Gibson just that it was manufactured in Japan. Workmanship wise, it is execellent and consistant compared to Gibsons. Tone wise (referring to Orville by Gibson here), it is simply superb. Please note that there are slight difference between an Orville and a Orville by Gibson.

Sorry I haven't tried enough of Epis to give a comment. The ones I tried are the MIK or China version so it's not fair for comparison. Have not gotten my hands on a MIJ one or a Elite.

So it really depends on what you are after. All the copies listed above have their own niche. Hope this helps.
