Les Paul Rhythm/Treble position..

Hi all Les Paul players...

When I turn off either one of the pickups and set the switch to the middle (between rhythm and treble), the sound is almost acoustic like...
this is when playing with distortion on my amp.

When i slowly turn up the vol knob of my other pickup, the heavy sound returns.... this is with my Gibson Les Paul.

On the other hand, when I do the same with my epiphone les paul, pushing the switch into middle doesnt do anything at all..... just the distorted sound of either pickup......

Can anyone tell me whats wrong?

Hi writer, you mean you turn either one of ur pickup's vol to zero and then you put the pickup selector to the middle position?

YES..

I turn up one of the pickups, and turn down the other one to zero.

And setting the switch to the middle... inbetween Rhythm and Treble.

And I get the 'acoustic sound'..... even thru my amp which is on distortion.

Perhaps more experience Les Paul owners can correct me on this, but to my knowledge, if you use the middle setting on ur pickup selector and either one of ur pickup's vol is zero, you should hear nothing at all?

This is how it is with my Burny LP, I guess it should be same with the Gibson?

If I am correct, then i guess the pickups are wired in series so if one is 'off', then there will no signal at all. Or perhaps ur Gibson is wired differently.

My guitar electronics knowledge is truly half-past-6.

Yeah. Correct. It shouldn't sound when you turn one of your pup's vol to zero when in the middle position. But there's other wiring that allows your pickups to sound even if one of the vol is zero. Mine work like this too. What model do you have? Maybe it's wired differently.

Hi von, my burny is an RLC-45, it's a copy of the black custom LP. So yeah, 2 vol 2 tone control, front & back binding, neck & headstock binding, gold hardware, 3 ply pickguard etc. Here's a link to a pic

I got it from Luther, but i think he doesn't have anymore cos it's not on the list of Burnys on the website the last time i checked.

:)

thats what i thought..
i want that model... u mean it used to be listed in the site?? nv say it therre b4...

hmm.. i'll go check it out..

write a review for the rest of us? no very familiar with this brand... heard good things though..

Well i'd love to write a review, but I think i have hardly half as much experience as subversion to give u an objective critique of my burny. This is only my second electric guitar, my first being a rust-ridden Vantage fat-strat copy. So compared to that piece of shit, my burny is tops! Hah...

But what i can tell you is that Burny is a sub-brand of Fernandes Japan, they specialise in making Gibson copies.

I'm sure u can find reviews on Harmony Central, but if you're too lazy to do that, just click below

My friend told me mine's not as heavy as those vintage Burnys, guess they just don't make them like they used to. oh well...

BTW, few weeks back i saw a white Burny custom LP at Guitar Connection, abt 700, i think.
