LAST.FM going p2p!!!

http://blog.last.fm/2009/03/24/lastfm-radio-announcement

Q. When does this go into effect?
A: We are currently planning to switch to subscription radio outside the US, UK, and Germany on Monday, March 30.

I was shocked to find out this news earlier this afternoon. Last.fm did not send any notice or put up an announcement on its homepage to inform us users of this major change. I found out about this only after I chanced upon one of the anti-p2p movement groups.

i think its only the radio thing, which i never use at all. the service is still free, you just need to pay to stream music online (i think).

sounds pretty weird to me. so you pay just to hear the music they play but all the other services are free?

Think sooner or later streaming services all have to charge for plays, because they have to pay the labels money every time they stream a song to someone, and the advertising and other revenue isn't enough to cover the costs.

i guess the scrobbing is still free, but radio function you need to pay to use it. i might still use last.fm, but solely for the scrobbing. I want to keep track of all my song acitivity and statistics.

i use last.fm solely for scrobbling only, so doesn't really matter to me. even if one day it becomes p2p, most likely i'll pay for it. after all, subscriber fees at the moment are pretty cheap, around 15 SGD if i'm not wrong..
