k hybrid china

I know Plainsman own one of these Chinas (he have a complete set of K Hybrid)...and yes they are loud.....heard it at the Exchange...they are nice cymbals.
Back in the 80s I used to be really into chinas esp for rock fusion stuff. I was esp impressed buy how Jimmy Lee used his Chinas to great effect...but alas..that's precisely what Chinas are for..mainly effects.
You can't really ride a China without pissing the whole band off...and using it as a regular crash won't cut it either. A shiny China mounted high on each side makes for good visual effects though.
Yep, my fascination for Chinas have long abated...I used to always have 2 mounted around my set but have now reduced to just one...to cut the clutter and not block my view !
The real Chinas (not the ones made by US cymbal makers) have a raw unique sound which jars with most western music and therefore should be used sparingly. I used to shop in Bangkok's Chinatown for some really interesting locally hammered Chinas (or Thais?). And they are quite hardy too despite the tendency to crack if hit in the wrong places.

Bro Blofeld...actually I saw some pretty large China use by some Jazz Drummers, yes they hit it sparingly and it sounded very good...I guess some nice sounding China might be appropriate for Jazz (they seems to blend well, doesn't sound like the Rock Type, or maybe it's the Drummer Technique in the way it hit it and it really sounded so good)....I have heard good china of this sort from the Brand "Turkish"...
I myself I used a 14" China a Paiste TWENTY Series - it's very thin thus sounded very good with a Short Explosive Sound ... I think China can be ride upon, I saw a DVD (my friend gave it to me) - - Dennis Chamber was riding on a China when he did some Fusion stuffs...but he didn't ride on the China throughout the song, only a small part of the song he did that.

Way cool u got a Zildjian K Custom hybrid! Welcome to the hybrid gang
I'm now really into this hybrid series.
Myself got a Hybrid 20" ride, 16" crash and waiting for the 11" splash coming in a few months. Enjoying them alot as its the sound i'm looking for and also their expressiveness(getting various sounds from the cymbals) and responsiveness.
Haha don worry about ur crash being loud, u can learn to control ur stick to play softer or at the volume u want.
Can also try using the tip of ur stick to crash. I know ur 17" crash would give a nice crash even when struck with the tip, as I've played with Plainsman 17" hybrid crash before. My 16" also performs the same.
Being loud is a good thing ya, cos u know u'll have the volume when u want it.
I refrain from saying the hybrids are loud, but i'll say they can be very loud. A better description is that they can cut very well. Plainsman would tell u that the hybrids are made for today's music that are generally loud.
The china is no different, (can be) very loud and very cutting.

yups i got the original set which was the 17, 19 crash, 13 1/4 hats, 9, 11 splashes, 20 ride and the 19 china
it is a difficult cymbal to use. not one of those you hit will open up immediately like a sound sample.
the range of tones you can get out of it is far and wide.
zildjian k is very well-known in music recording history, hybrid k sounds like a k yet is something different.
the more u play the more you will ask yourself. am i having the skill to play this cymbal to its potential?
the cymbal i choose. do i want it to follow the history of the cymbal ancestors, or do i want to break new ground and sound different?
can i do it?
it is not marketing hype that it can sound both dark and bright.
if you go gentle, there is dark and deep wash. if you beat the shit out of it, it will eat up other cymbals.
use it with wisdom and serve the music!!!!

thanks all for the comments on the hybrid china ll haven got to really use it yet, brought it once to jamming and i guess i hitted it too loud, can read the expressions from my mates, never the less i will try it again during my next jamm session.
I dun own an acoustickit, i can only use my cymbvals during practises and some gigs.
also thought of getting the splash at least some thing to go along with the china.

The K hybrid china are great stuff, esp for their loud attack which gives a great unique crash sounding after all that regular crashes 
haha but gotta agree with plainsman, use it when it suits the music.
Personally, I love china sounds which are dark and has great sustained sounds even when hit softly such as the Sabian HHX 20" china... sweet One great drummer who apply that was Dom Famularo, he applied the HHX chinas rather nicely with dynamics

Yo! I think you might wanna check it out in a bigger room or open stage...cos it WILL sound different from your bedroom (I'm assuming you're playing it at home most of the time)....When I first tried Alfe's Hybrids in his teaching room I found it to be overly bright...but when I heard it again at a larger room it sounded much warmer and then I saw Alfe playing it with his band....I thought it was one great sounding cymbal!
Also, I have a 21" china on my setup with 4 rivets attached...I used it for normal crashing and riding too....it can really work even in a soft jazz setting if you pay attention to your touch and dynamics that is....
