Jazz bass pickups for both Rock and Slapping

My MIJ Fender Jazz currently has Dimarzios pre-fitted, the sound is just ok.. but I feel it lacks
a bit of the Jazz Bass growl and that piano-like clarity,

more rather it sounds very stiff and boxy, sometimes I have to doctor up my settings to make it sound
just slightly better.

I play normally rock and I like to do some slapping. Can anyone recommend jazz pickups that's good for both rock and slapping?

Common jazz pickups found on J-rock basses are the SD Basslines. Never used em myself, but got close to some tones (Toshiya and Saga specifically) via pedal and EQ..

ah, a fellow female bassist! hello! there arent' many of us around. hehe.

Ok, i think you should definitely give EMG J pickups a try. they have a hotter signal.

Highly recommend Bartolinis. I have a set on my main bass and they're excellent for slapping and solid pick bass, They're cheaper than the rest too!

just another recommendation, just my opinion for slapping remove the thumb rest, not the chrome cover, but the small wooden thing, it will make your life harder slapping, btw, sometime its not really the pickup, maybe you need to dig in the string when you play, like hit the string hard to get a more aggressive tone- for example flea, he dig in his string hard to get his tone,

btw which dizmario are you using? ultra jazz or? or any other video that we can refer to wad type of sound you are looking for.

another thing is is there any mute under your bridge cover, usually there is a mute at the underneath of the cover, the mutes will obviously change and alter the tone of the bass. thats another thing to consider.

If i remember corrctly, Bart 5 jazz pickup does not line up correctly with 4 string spacing. The d3 may drop out, due to the spit blade inside Bart.

Andrew H, have u gotten the sound u want? Tried stainless steel strings? I find dr string quite bright n piano like. Hope tt helps.
