Jamming

Hey guys just wanna ask some stuffs.

During jamming, drums are like super loud, and somehow, i can't even hear my own guitar. When i turn up the volume, my drummer say its too loud. But i feel its just ok. Is it me or what.

Its like the drums is covering the vocals also, can hear nothing but the drums, can't even hear my guitar. Got any tips or advice in this?

And also, during gigs (i've never performed in one). Same situation? I know its open air sometimes but how to play around with the volume?

Or is it the jamming studio? Thanks.

Move your amp away from the drummer as far as is necessary and make it point towards you so you can monitor the sound. Stand near it in the cone of sound that it produces. That way you can please both parties.

try this: drums are flanked by all the amps, at the outest most end and pointed slightly inwards 2ward u. tts wat i do. so far, this arrangement doesnt pose problems when my band plays.

My amp was furthest to the drums... And i was standing in the middle.

Between the drums and amp...

maybe u shld stand closer 2 ur amp. u can hear it then. coz drums tend 2 swallow alittle bit of sound. but jamming studios are not the same wif open air. besides, jamming studios are usually smaller compared 2 stages or watever. so sound is compressed, or smth like tt.

drummer should drum appropriate level, unless in a gig and sound engineers r there, otherwise, its deafening to others and a ringtone stays with u for a week and after a few years, you cannot enjoy good music anymore..

Ear plugs work? Where to buy?

Ok thanks for the advice...

I'll work it out with the drummer. But the drummer say its for the feel? And i have to admit hes good lah hmmm

By the way, which studio is better? In terms of sound quality and equipments? Price wise?

Thanks.

best u find a decently big room. my band at garage studios... never looked back :)

it's rather hard to work with small rooms and then expect say Cream-style volumes.

Ah yes must agree, Garage is really big...

Btw.. How do the vocals cut thru during jamming? When you turn up the vol too much, theres feed back... Sorry quite newbie to PA stuffs...

somewhere in between raffles place and china town. it's 1 shop and 1 level away from settlers, a gaming cafe. google "settlers cafe" and find the address it provides on the website... the studios is on the left of settlers, go up the stairs to 2nd floor and u can find it.

or just check soft or audioreload. i'm sure they have the add somewhere.

the easiest way to get there is by taking the NEL to clarke quay mrt station. then from the gantry (the gates that suck money from your ezlink) you turn right and walk straight. come out, walk out into hong lim park, go near the road, cross it, look for the paper sign pasted on some of the staircase entrances and voila, you should be able to find garage.

if my directions are incomprehensible, then too bad.

i is no street directory.

XD

but kidding la. its really easy to get there.
