Is this squier genuine?

Hi all.

I saw a Red strat-shaped guitar with the name squier on the headstock. The plate at the neck joint was also stamped "squier". But then there are no other markings on the guitar. Usually squiers would have "Squier stratocaster" or "squier strat" etc printed on the headstock. It was painted red, but still can see the grains of wood.

Also, this is the lightest guitar i ever carried.. However when it came to tone, it didnt suck.. It has a nice feel also. Plus, it costs less than 300 bucks..

So im wondering, is this a real squier, or a good-sounding fake?

theres a chance that this is one of the older squires, coz i dont remember early 90s squires having the word stratocaster or serial numbers

Its a brand new guitar.

ok then i have no idea. hah.... where did u see it anyway? cant be a fake squire if its at swee lee.

well if u feel it sounds nice and worth the price, then i dont think brand name matters anyway. plus resale value for squires arent high anyway so theres nothing to lose.

Now everyone also sellling Squier...Swee Lee, Ranking sports & their sub Theme music, Dan Enterprise, Guitar Workshop, Ebenex (?) ... etc etc

If U want to know genuine or not - check the offical Squier website for the model lah...

One thing I can tell you - all the cheapos Squiers all made in China with pretty much standard hardware & workmanship - Except for certain models that are PLY WOOD - check CAREFULLY before you buy - you can actually see / feel the ply joint underneath the various coats of paint. Even multi joint boxwood etc is better than ply (for me at least)... so beware.

2 cents for the cause

not so - I previously owned a deluxe series - was in the website but no serial number

fgl bro, how to see the ply joints under the coats of paint? u mean u can somewhat see patterns like that on a 'kue lapis' under the paint? what if it is a solid-coloured guitar?

yes - hold up to the light - kueh lapis..some even you can "feel" with fingers..

sperad the word to all to beware of the kueh lapis squier..

ok, 1 last question fg, how do u tell between plywood and several slabs of wood joint together one on top of another for a bod (is this what u mentioned as multi-joint boxwood)?

bin4christ - dont worry -I'm not charging U for replies

kueh lapis strat: small thin joints normally about 1/2 cm from the face top downwards. (vertical)

Multi ply wood from top of guitar (e.g top horn) joined downwards (horizontal)

OR

SNED TO FGL - guitar bodies assessed for 1 kopi

i agree with FGL, some squier are plywood. some cheap brand guitar that are plywood are samick, craftsman, etc... even agathis are better than plywood...

I got a MIK Squier that I just stripped to repaint; it was while stripping that I realised it was a plywood body.

Prior to this I had the pickups changed into DiMarzio rails at neck and bridge and a Seymour Duncan in the middle (this was about 10 years ago, so I forgot what models they were. It really improved the sound, but now I realise why the damn thing can never carry sustain properly.

Finishing the body soon. Will post pics when the "fake Fender Goth" is ready.

For those who "kena" the plywood body & want a much better upgrade - I'm selling my new black Swamp ash strat body as posted in the guitar buy/sell section ... just FYI

STRAT BODY SOLD

i dont think the california series are plywood.
afterall its already made from basswood.
a plywood basswood body would be the ultimate low :P
