Is This Audio Interface Good?

Yep, the AI I'm referring to is the Line 6 Studio UX2.

My 'good' means that when i record my guitar through this AI, the sound quality is very clear and sounds like 'real record', and not sounds like a recording at home.

Yea, so tell me what you guys think!

Unless you have the hearing of an 90 year old war veteran who's stepped on a landmine and lost most of his hearing during the blast , disappointment will be guaranteed.

lol...

UX2 is great for a start or when there are budget constraints. If you're particular about your sound, I would advise to stay away from it.
First glance looks good but when you pick it up, it feels totally like a cheapo piece of gear... I'm biased - no plasticky stuff thanks!

Drivers are reasonably stable (couple of crashes) and Line6 Monkey is included to help update the software with less of a pain.

I'm not sure what you mean by "real-record", if you plugged in a mic and started recording in your room, chances are the result would sound like your room, unless you mask it with some EFX.

If you have more $ to blow, I would suggest AIs from RME or Apogee. RME have just released if I'm not mistaken, Firewire and Usb combos on a single unit.

Apogee supports only Mac Computers and is pricey but loads of peeps swear by the company's products. You can hardly find any major issues or problems on it's user forums... The UV22HR dithering algorithm is included with products like Ensemble and upwards and is nothing short of amazing.

Hi

I was thinking of getting the UX1 or UX2 too, but after reading this, i kinda have second thoughts. Actually why would you guys say that the UX2 will guarantee disappointment? Could you elaborate a little, thanks.

And which usb interface would you recommend then, that are within the same price range as the UX1 and UX2?

Cheers
Joshua

the reason why is that UX2 is a few hundred bucks and professional studios spend thousands and thousands of dollars on gear, years of experience etc, skills , techniques , room treatments etc. and you want "the sound quality is very clear and sounds like 'real record', and not sounds like a recording at home." realistically speaking, even if you gave michael schumacher an old lorry to drive, he's not going to outrun any fast cars out there without seriously endangering everyone's life on the road. I can't think of a better word apart from disappointment.

pls be realistic , cheers

Hey

Of course I would agree with you on that! If I was rich enough to get an interface that good i'll probably just go for it.

and you want "the sound quality is very clear and sounds like 'real record', and not sounds like a recording at home

I'm not looking for a real record, rather, I'm looking to buy an interface which is well worth its price.

The UX2 could cost S$250 during a sale. For around that price, which audio interface would you recommend?

Thanks and cheers!

im using the gx toneport, there are some latency issues but other thn that doing some minor recording stuff it's still alright.. if your not into recording it makes a pretty good "bedroom amp" well doubt you can get any great amps with the price your paying for the toneport.. tho i must say dont expect too much ..

Most AI at this price cat is clean enough. For UX2,you got 4 line to record a acoustic guitar. Overtime, you just built your gear.

I've got no qualms with my UX1. Zero latency issues and with proper EQing, some of our local guitarists can get pretty nice tones. Can check out nickmatthew on youtube, he uses a Toneport UX2.

A very good and cheap audio interface suggestion would be the Novation Nio. It doesn't cost much, portable, enough inputs and outputs for the price and is said to be running dead stable. :)

zidane : for $250, if you're a guitarist, line6 toneport has more focus on its "digital guitar processor" , I'd just stick with it. unless you wanna check out native instruments guitar rig. otherwise the preamps on it is "OK" for that price.

many has said their piece of recommendation, the best advice I can give right now is to go down and test it personally =)
