Is there a stacked humbucker which can do this?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of having a stacked humbucker in the bridge of my s/s/s strat in which i would want it to have a humbucker sound which is able to handle genres like prog rock or even modern metal.

However i would also want that pickup to sound like a regular vintage output single coil pickup in the bridge position when split into single coil mode.

Do you guys know of any pickup in the market which can achieve this?

Thank you !!!

those stacked single coils out there fulfills the hum-cancelling function more than emulating the regular-sized humbuckers in terms of tone; they were conceived to be as such back at the factory. maybe this is the reason why there are single-coil sized humbuckers like DiMarzio's Tone Zone S or Duncan's Lil' 59 for other options.

Try the JB jr from SD, try splitting it with a dual concentric pot, 250k when split, 500k in full humbucker mode.

thanks for the tip ian and sub :D

Anyone has tried a splitted "rail" type single coil humbucker before? Any opinions on that sound in terms of closeness to a single coil

I got a DiMarzio Fast Track T for my tele before.
Sounds similar to the original bridge, without the hum (of course).

I put an EQ with boosted output before my distortion so it sort of makes my distortion "see" my guitar as a high output pickup rather than a single coil, you can consider that if you want.

rail type in split mode- that will be my Norton S in my RG3XXV

very convincing single coil tone, it's able to twang things up when i roll off the volume a little bit.

Am using a DiMarzio Area T for my tele.
Might not suit your needs for strat but...

Kinda find it sterile and i miss my stock pickups though i've learnt to work with this one.
No hum. (Y)
It's kinda like a in between because it doesn't sound like a humbucker
but more like a high output single coil without hum.

Pick a rail/stacked coil that has the split coil sound you like. It's easier to fatten it up with gain pedals than the other way round (picking a modern humbucker and trying to get "vintage" or "twang" or whatever crap you wanna call it :P )

i agree with that bro. But its quite hard to get information on spilt coil tones that especially through sound samples on youtube as it is nt well documented. Im thinking of going the JB jr route as ive heard good tones from the splitted sound in a demo. Thanks to ian for tt tip :D
