waddya pple think? is metal dead? i know some pple think so. but why? i mean, megadeth's coming out with an album this year, slayer's still kicking ass and taking everyone to hell, metallica got st.anger out which is bloody heavy and of cos theres old iron maiden with an album out too.

btw, nu-metal is not metal.

heavy metal is still very much alive i think, but without the complex shredding guitar solos.Heavy metal kind of "fade to black" during the grunge era, but yea now theres lotsa heavy metal activity quite recently, black sabbath reunion..

most pple dont consider st anger heavy metal or not as good as its previous albums

st. anger to me is good. its definetly the fastest they've put out since the justice album. the black album was more classic rock than the thrash stuff on kill em' all. yeah, so what's ur take on stanger?

but anyway, fair enough, metal is not dead.

well, i'd like to say mahesha that metal is taking a break soon. they took a break when grunge was ruling. in fact if you say nu-metal is not metal then yes, metal has been dead for quite a while. even though metallica megadeath, iron maiden still have a strong following, they are no longer the force they used to be. however i predict in 1 or 2 years time a new brand of metal will come, not nu-metal, but different, god forbid it be glam but something. but as eras die out it WILL come back again. so metal IS dead now, but it's resurecting soon.

metal sucks anyway. it's rednecks playing guitars.

Are we talking 'bout metal in singapore or worlwide? If worldwide, especially in europe, metal songs and metal groups are as celebrated as other pop idols. Metal in singapore is definately not dead. We still have regular metal gigs, shops selling metal stuffs, shops selling metal CD's right? If i could blame someone, i'l blame the media (esp. radio stations), for not playing them.

I'm gonna listen to Judas Priest's "Painkiller" now!!!

yeah i pretty much had the same impression of metal here in singapore. im constantly seeing ads for metal gigs here. pity theres always an 18+ age limit. yeah man, judas priest. im reading this abt the history of heavy metal and damn im learning a lot of shit. lot of great old bands like exodus and saxon. finally started listening to megadeth and pantera now. damn i feel good. metal up yer ass man.....

if the standard of 'metal' is a reference to what's playing on the radio, then those are plain lame 'metal' playing, it's more commercial ear fodder than anything else.

for those of us who believe in the harder, radio-unfriendly stuff, metal is well alive & procreating...

now listening to: Mayhem 'Chimera'

actually metal was never dead, it's just that now it could be considered dying as it has been out of the mainstream music scene for almost 20 years. the last posible metal entrance into the charts was enter sandman back in 1991. since then there hasn't been any convincing metal act beefing up the mainstream music, its all for a dedicated cult. let me xplain why it's dying. who are the people you mentioned, iron maiden, metallica, megadeath, def leppard, pantera etc. they've been around at least 20 years!!!!! that means since 20 years ago no good metal band has formed. so all we're listening to is music by the veterans.

a genre of music which is alive comes up with new improved acts almost every year, metal obviously does not do that anymore. it will however in the near future, i assure you. but it's dying, it's dying like your great grand mother.

they dont play metal on the radio man. unless u consider somebody like korn metal. but i dont. metal was never played on the radio was it? maybe some metallica stuff from the black album cos thats radio friendly. ive heard sandman a couple of times late at nite on Perfect 10. but all their earlier metallica stuff and stuff like exodus and megadeth ive never heard at all. but thats true metal. black album stuff is more classic rock. so hell yeah metal is alive...

Exodus--bonded by blood!!!!!!!!!!!!!yeah man!!!!!

yo mahesha, if you want metal up yer ass, go to the kitchen. take a fork and stick it up your butt, that's metal. change your slogan, say ENEMA UP YOUR ASS MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well super_punk dude is rite.. all the stuff we're listening to is old stuff but theres a whole lot of underground action... so if u only look at the mainstream, yeah metal is dead. however very few metal bands do make it mainstraem rite?

hello, what were the 80s? every single act on the radio was metal! that is alive. how bout black sabbath and led zepplin they were giants! but unfortunately right the best metal acts are weiners compared to the commercial juggernauts no matter how lame they are. it's a travesty but metal is not as big as it used to be. face it. comon, mahesha how many people in school actually listen to metal, 20 at the most? now look to the 70s and 80s, almost everyone appreciated it. but now it's a cult activity, only the selected few. you can say it's alive but most people will say it's dying.

i meant now. i noe the 80's were full of metal bands. i meant after dat. btw, why do pple consider led zepplin metal? they're more blues kinda rock stuff. but they're stilll killer dude.

metal is dead in most parts of the world, with the exception some parts of europe.
British heavy metal is still very much alive.. Black sabbath, iron maiden.
Places like sweden, has a very thriving metal scene, with lots of new genuine heavy metal acts popping out each year, infact it has become their tradition. Its just that metal is restricted to that single continent, not that its dying
Metal in europe did not sell themselves out.. unlike in the us.... (metallica)

there are metal acts which aren't underground but they are not with the major labels either. these are superb bands, often belittled by the media or the lay persons because of how they present themselves. hence, without sufficient coverage, it's almost as good as not existing.

also, there's too much emphasis on the US music scene. metal in Europe are more credible representatives of the genre.

yeah metallica did sell out in the late 90's with their Load and Reload albums. they tried to produce something radio-friendly.but now they're back kicking ass with st. anger and their tour has been getting a lot of really good reviews.

led zeppelin aint metal, and they were in the 70s not 80s

anyway the metal scene is definitely alive very much in europe in that many new bands are popping up, but they are still not geting recognition. which is a pity. however the US, which has always been the main source of metal can only look to the veterans like metallica, megadaeth, def leppard, etc. who have been around 20 years at least. in the UK all i can think of is Iron maiden. thus we can see that the two main sources of metal have weakened. if you ask why it was weakened, i'd say it was grunge. GRUNGE. look, Massive shredding guitar solos with singers singing about dungeons and dragons seemed really shallow by the time Kurt Cobain was shouting "A DENIAL!!!!!!" right???? come on it's never really been as alive since grunge.
