Is Jazz Dead?

not really bro.. head on down to jazz @ south bridge, actors and harry's.. there are some 60s jazz being played over there.. it's cool. however, if you're referring to bands performing at gigs nowadays.. i'd agree not much jazz are around.. however most ive seen do contemporary jazz

cheers

my favourite local is frances lee, used to perform at harry's at holland v but no idea where she's gone!

there's a guy called paul doing jazz at harry's @the esplanade, he's not bad.

just check out all the harry's. there's jazz there. it's just, im 16, and wanting to form a jazz band is SO HARD!

Well at that age most people are interested in rock/metal and cannot even distinguish jazz from funk so I'm not surprised...

haha jazz isnt easy to play though. otherwise i'd be in a jazz band. i'm 16 too. wait lah... 2 years... i form jazz band with you.. bassist here.

It's not dead, but rather more and more are shifting their gigs overseas as the demand elsewhere is higher. The cultural background of a scene is important, and for Asia countries, Philippines and HK probably has a more active market for Jazz bands. You will find some of our Singapore cover bands there.

No offence, but I went to Harry's to see Paul Ponnudurai but was a bit disappointed. He has the chops, but his performance just didn't grip me. He looked like he was going thru the motions. IMO, of course.
