is it possible to slim down a guitar's neck profile?

I've been playing with slim necks profile all my life and when i got my new guitar it was kind of a surprise, the neck was pretty chunky, kinda hurts my fretting hand wrist too when i play.

so i was thinking, is it possible to send the guitar to a luthier and have him do something to the neck so as to make it thinner?

most probably will get a new neck...

yes it's possible- it's called shaving the neck. in s'pore, i only trust Malcom's luthier capacity to have it done prim & propper. however, be prepared to pay quite a bit for it...

on a personal note, i started out with a very thin profiled neck but managed to adapt to a thick neck. just needs a little getting used to.

btw, the guitar is a neckthru, so i cant simply get a new neck.

sorry to steal the tread a lil, but will slimming the neck affect the amount of tension that can be placed? for instance putting a 11 guage on the un slimmed neck and putting it on a slimmed neck...

i guess so, but then again, ibanez's been making super thin necks without much problem

you'll just have to adjust the truss rod if im not wrong
