is it easy kena cheat at soft.com here???

What has he done to you? If we're all getting cheated on a regular basis, I don't think we would still be here

I'm here.

I don't know who you are. My best guess is you are the guy who has been calling me in the middle of the night and in the early morning from two Malaysian handphone numbers, and spamming SMSes claiming that I sold you a fake Les Paul.

I have only handled one LP on the classifieds, an Epiphone Les Paul Custom in Alpine White which I got from a well-known seller/collector. I will be the first person to admit I'm not knowledgeable about actual guitar hardware, but the serial number checked out, a few other guitarists tried the LP, and you came with a friend to inspect it before buying (a friend who was also here to pressure me to lower the price, I should add).

This was 3 months ago. You can't expect me to take you seriously when the first notice I get 3 months later is (exact quote) "Pls pay back my money within 3 day.. If no i will contact police ..." I don't know what stunt you are trying to pull or what you have done with the guitar, or if you are even the same guy since you contact me out of the blue from an overseas number with no explanation and just a threat.

Please note that I will be contacting my telephone service provider to block your 2 numbers, and if you circumvent that and continue to harass me I will go to my police and you can go to yours.

wonder who is dat epic collector are..

btw TS, if it's 3 month ady, just let it be. just swallow it n steer away
Yes, there is a lot FAKE everywhere, both in SG or MY.. but dun simply blame the seller as faker/cheater. He may be not knowing the gtr is a counterfeit. 3 months is too long. by then, u can simply buy those cheapo fake in MY n simply threat somebody else back

To others, dats y dis forum ask for PICS in B&S section.
to point dat, no pics meaning either sthg wrong/defects with the item or it's a fake/con case.

If you have no solid proof or evidence that the guitar is a fake, and you go to the police making a big hoo hah, you will end up being the one who will be charged.

I on the other had, have been sold a fake strat without knowing, went home to check out the guitar, found that it was a fake, PM-ed the guy immediately on the same day. Initially he did not want to give me a refund because apparently I 'Opened up the guitar and he didn't know what I did to it', but I took pictures of the parts that were obviously fake, sent it to him and told him that if I did not get a refund soon, I would call the police. And the next day I got my refund. Only under circumstances similar to mine will you get a refund.

And I believe that carboxymoron would not sell anyone a fake guitar intentionally. I know him personally and he's an honest guy, so I have confidence in him and I'm sure lots of other softies who have dealt with before feel the same way.

*PS: TS, I don't really know what you're trying to do here, I've seen the serial no of the guitar and it's definitely real, so are the parts. So if you're just here to earn sympathy points so that you can try to get a refund, don't think that's going to be happening anytime soon.

Thanks. Not only were multiple angle pics provided in each of my ads for this guitar, I also pointed out the minor defects clearly, plus previously mentioned the seller brought a friend and inspected it before buying. But even then, no pics doesn't mean something is wrong. Majority of things I buy are from threads with no pics, I'm sure it's the same for most people, and I've never had a real bad deal.

I think it's time this thread moved some place else.
Agreed. I just wanted to give a full public account since I've been getting harassed by calls and SMSes. The best part is I still don't know for sure who the guy harassing me is, I'm just guessing from his incoherent messages.

If this about d LP CUSTOM - ALPINE WHITE. . . I knew bcoz I was communicating with CARBOXYMORON to inqure abt it when it was advertised. I found him very open as he described d crack near one of d knob n other condition of dat guitar. The only reason dat I didnt buy that LP was my son prefered another color tone.

or maybe he just decided he didn't want the guitar anymore and tried his luck on a refund.

Warning to all Singaporean Sellers: Be very very careful when selling items to anyone based overseas. Just be very very careful.

I've sold items to overseas buyers before. Once, i sold a speaker to a buyer from Malaysia. 3 months later, he emailed me and told me the speaker was spoiled. demanded a refund. Claimed he left the speaker in the box for 3 months, decided to take the speaker out and try one day, and found that the cone was torn.

we exchanged emails, during which i expressed anger and doubt that he should suddenly demand a refund 3 whole months after the purchase. in the end, he just stopped replying and backed off.

Granted, i have no idea what happened while the speaker was in his country. Maybe he really left it in the damned box for 3 months. But as far as i was concerned, i have never sold anyone a defective item and claimed it was working.

As a result, i will never sell music gear to anyone based in Malaysia, Indonesia, or Thailand ever again.

Despite this current experience, I don't think that's fair. You can find far worse buyers in Singapore. But of course, to each his own.

It's a little sad things turned out this way. Hope he isnt harassing you anymore, carboxymoron.

Guess everyone has had their own share of bad experiences with buyers/sellers whether overseas or local. I once waited for a buyer for a snare drum for 30 minutes and when he showed up, he didn't apologise and started to 'test' the snare. Hitting it a couple of times in the middle of a shopping mall. Wasted another 30 mins of my time asking me redundant questions( in a tone which I thought was quite rude of him) for a SGD70 stock snare. Didn't buy it in the end. It's not like he was dealing a very expensive snare at a very high price.

Looks like I don't need to back up carboxymoron, there's already enough praises being sung.

To readdress the thread title, it's no easier getting cheated on soft than it is in real life or on any other forums/sites. If at all, it's a little more secure, because a small community, based in a small country, furthermore in a niche area of interest, is much more efficient at policing cons and fakes than other groups.

I think buying on soft has become a riskier thing. even reputable sellers might not know what they have. Even though they might have done some form of research, you have to do your own fair share as well. I'll not mention names but I did confront a seller a while back. No reply from him.

I've seen many new ads that don't contain pictures + a lot of people are leaving their HP numbers in the "9 Nine Nine 3 Two 6 7 Eight" so that it's hard to trace their number when doing a search.

even if they do provide pictures, they seem to be images taken off ebay ads or google images. when you sell something, it better be a picture of that item itself. in today's society where almost everyone owns a camera phone, is it that difficult to take a few pictures and upload them?

the number one item to be wary of when buying guitars is Epiphone. I have bought several before and I've got cheated more than once only because these clowns don't post pictures on their ads. When you ask for a refund, they simply don't answer your calls or smses.

from the outside it's quite hard to tell considering that their serial numbers are inconsistent but when you look at the insides, you can tell from the routing and the electronics. Oh, and the pickups don't have the Epiphone stamp.

before thinking that you are getting a good deal, please check the pictures thoroughly.

Nope not at all TS.

I have been buying and selling all my drum gear (yes, every single snare and cymbal I own is 2nd hand, except a few exceptions) for the past 6-7 years and I have never come across anybody who tried to scam me.

The closest I had was this Fillipino guy who insisted that there was a scratch on my Black Panther snare and asked for a lower price. Well, I don't sell for profit, so I gave him a $50 discount since the amount was more than enough to fund my next purchase.

The onus is always on the buyer to check for defects, and once the deal has been settled (ie. money and goods have been exchanged), there should be no need for the original seller to refund because you will never know what the other person has done to the item.

My advice to everybody here is that if something is really too good to be true, it can't be real - do your homework before making the purchase!

Just FYI, I had a police case a few years back involving a particular snare that was stolen. I had a hunch that it was stolen, but because it was dirt cheap (near mint condition, ~50% off retail price) and I was greedy, I paid for it and bought it. I ended up having to return the snare with no refunds for it - wrote it off as my mistake and from then on, I check thoroughly and I ask the seller where they got it from, why they're selling etc.

TS, I don't know what your story is, but if its true that you only called to demand for a refund 3 months after the transaction, then please for heaven's sake, stop it. You threatening and spamming the seller only makes you look and sound like an idiot.

If you truly think that you're wronged and you were cheated, by all means, go to the authorities.

Thanks for the support, but I disagree with this assumption. There are some "lao jiaos" with terrible attitude and dealing practices around, and you can't judge who's right and wrong just by the join date.

Anyway guys please stop posting irrelevant comments to this thread and just let it die.
