hey fellow softies,
if im planning on to install a pickguard on a les paul guitar(originally dosen't have the screw holes for pickguard) would it spoil the body or affect the tone of the guitar in anyway?

affect tone? no...i always install them myself..but just have to make sure the pickguard fits in, else you got to cut/file etc. the pickguard.

wow ty for the fast reply.
oh ok, so any ideas on how i should do it?do i need to drill the screw holes first?
and where can i get the pickguards?

pickguards you can get them at alot of shops, davis, ranking etc. do let them know if yours is a gibby or epi. they should advise you which pickguard. original pickkguard or not.

installing..what i normally do is just screw them in, no drilling..lol...

I think what the TS means is.

His guitar didn't come with a pickguard originally.

So he's wondering if he were to drill holes and install one, would it affect tone and such.

I think it won't, but if i were you i'd just leave it without a pickguard hah.

What's your guitar?

haha yeah thats what i meant.i was planning to get the Rally Guitar
If i cant install the pickguard, ill probably stick with my solution for a 2nd hand epiphone les paul :D

Sometimes looks come first?

Some people wanted a les paul because they are attracted to it when they 1st saw them (with a pickguard equipped). So to them, a les paul with pickguard will make them feel better when they carry the guitar.

I'm one of these people too.
It is a must for me to have chrome humbuckers equipped on the les paul.
I don't care if it is black, zebra or gold. I only want chrome.

^^

hey TS, is the pickguard really THAT important that it is the deciding factor between a rally and an epiphone?

not really.but its good if i can install myself i can save quite a bit from getting the epiphone. The rally has pretty good reviews just that it dosen't fit my description of a complete les paul without the pickguard.Gives me the motivation to play ya know

i believe ive ans all his qns in my posts..?

Unless you got real steady hands and the right equipment, it's not advisable to drill the pilot holes yourself. If you slip with a power drill, it will leave unsightly marks on the top. Only consolation is after the pickguard goes on, you might not see them.

That said, there are pickguard solutions that don't require drilling, it's a pickguard joined to the pickup rings. Google it and see if it works for you.
