Increasing your vocal range

my suggestion hasn't changed, it's just to practice everyday... hey
i think there was a thread on this. mind checking through the sforum?

This is everyone's favorite question :)

The best and simplest advice I can give is
1. Be aware of your bridges (aka break, passagio, register change)
2. Take it slow. Build up your existing range and make it stable and strong, then add notes on the top.

hahah for me i get irritated when i got to the high notes already after practicing then the next day suddenly cannot

how? yeah maintain ur highest notes and increase bit by bit. follow with songs.
i like to sing 'with' bruce in hallowed be thy name.

The next day cannot? Is it due to inadequate warm up?

Well well, I just had a very convincing lesson - if your technique is bad, then it doesn't matter how much you try, your range will not increase. Too much air or tension on the high notes and you'll never get any higher.

An easy out that i always to covers which key i can't reach is i change the key. its not always obvious and you can actually sing comfortably once you've got yourself singing the right key. You know sometimes those karaoke machines have that flat and sharp thingy? yeah. i've never used that myself.

I just use a capo on my guitar. ><

it works!

Yeap I do the same thing too... cos I can't afford to go for vocal classes and learn the whole technique thing... no choice. Perhaps I'm singing it with a wrong technique, but for some reason it's easier to sing used-to-be-hard songs and it's much much easier to reach the high notes and sustain them now.. I just keep practicing...

I still remember the day my passagio cleared :D I was so happy lol

as wat i believe...breathin is important..u nid to have enuf air to reach the high pitch..so..to have enuf air..u nid to hv stamina..to get stamina..u nid to exercise regularly...runnin is a gd form of exercise..and swimming under water to practice ur breathin..ull build ur stamina slowly...it works for me..hopefully it does 4 u too..n i agree on wat btherl mentioned..1. Be aware of your bridges (aka break, passagio, register change)..u shud practice ur songs way way b4 ur jammin session n to noe exactly which part of the lyrics dat u nid to breath in n how long does ur lungs ran out of oxygen b4 the lyrics ends..im not a professional..its juz my personal opinion.. :)

don't need say so much. jus sing jyojyoshi by larc en ciel to perfection(which i can...muahahaas) it's just a starter song to boost vocal ranges.cheers

layman's terms

Bridges is like.... if you sing low to high, there'll be a part where your voice changes tone and mechanism. That part is the bridge... your tone will change when you go to the higher part...

if your voice is developed and if you want technique terms, it's the part between your chest and head voice, that "gap"...
for non-developed voices, your voice will usually start going breathy and tighten a bit once you hit above the bridge or like you'll go into falsetto... that's cos you're not using your head voice, just pushing everything through your chest voice...

You try singing lah, low to high..... there will be a part where your voice change gear... now that gap there, that's your bridge... london bridge is falling down...

ok wait here's a useful link with not much words.

Wah so chim....

Bridge - Something that connects 2 things. In singing, the 2 things are the notes.

K this one I donno how to explain, must call in the vocal tech elites already... haha..

One way I use to determine whether I'm singing in the head voice is that the resonance is focused in your face, around the upper sinus cavities.

Try singing low to high, again, but using the word "Hee". So go "hheeeeeeEEEE" all the way. Pay close attention to where the resonance shifts to when you go higher; Head voices are usually and generally used to sing high pitches so you should be able to sense that section when you go higher. Try it?

I think...

Chest voice are usually using warm air and using more of your diaphragm. You can feel the nice smooth tone resonating in your chest. I usually get it when i sing Bubles like Fever, Home etc..

I've tried once to use Head voice, but i felt dizzy, but kakak sage should know more cos her voice is like OMFG...

lol

It depends I think? Some people use their head voice within their own tone, others shift technique when they reach the head voice..
Like.. I use my head voice to hit the high notes, but not completely.. I combine both the head and chest, so that tone doesn't change as much as it should.. But I use this for pop/jazz vocals more...
If i use a complete head voice, I tend to sound a tad more operatic, and it's easier for me to let go vibratos and sustain more air control..
altho I think it's just based on how I styled the technique to my vocal habits..

I think it could work both ways, that the tone is maintained or different. I'd have to read up on that, thanks for bringing it up! :)
