Hi...

I need some advice from the Ibanez guitar lovers...

I got an old Ibanez SA120 which was made in Indonesia in 2007. The guitar was left untouched as my son failed to appreciate Ibanez guitar yet :( But I love Ibanez even I don play guitar myself (am a fan of JS and SV's music).

I am thinking of changing the bridge to floyd rose as my son doesn't have a FR guitar yet... My questions are:

1) Is it a viable plan to change the fixed bridge to a FR one? or should i just sell m get another Ibanez FR?

2) What is the cheapest but commendable , Ibanez FR guitar ?

3) If I am to put this Ibanez for sale at what price should I expect at today market?

Thank you so much for any enlightenment given....

hi there :-)

1) Which Ibanez SA model is this? unless I'm terribly wrong, SA models don't come with fixed bridges, they are equipped with the SAT model (pic below from my SA1260). This model is the manufacturer's interpretation of the traditional, whammy bridge like the one used in Fenders, but with some refined features. In order for a Floyd Rose bridge to fit into the SA120, some major cavity gouging needs to be done. This is costly & might affect the guitar's overall tone.

2) Ibanez don't come with FR (Floyd Rose bridges), Ibanez has its own version of the Floyd Rose called the Edge Zero/ Edge Zero II. These are all reputable bridges with equally effective locking mechanism as well as above average functionality. There are too many to recommend but the Standard models are currently equipped with the EZII bridges. The Premiums are also featuring the EZIIs, the Prestige models- the Edge Zero. Ibanez's renowned Edge bridge (still used by Vai & Satch) is making a comeback & is standard feature in the re-issue/ Genesis series RG550:

If you are keen but wouldn't want to go overboard in terms of price, the RG350M is recommended:

3) The SA120 retails for about $480+/-, if anyone offers you an upper $200 offer, please consider.

Hope these help :-)
