Ibanez RG Prestige Suggestions

Hey guys, I'm looking for the above. So far I have only shortlisted the RG2620 (non-2005 model) and a RG2120X (2nd hand). Are there any similar models that I should look out for. What tremolos out there shoud I avoid? Budget max 2K, though I would much prefer to keep it below 1.5K.

Thanks!

All prestiege RGs have the top of the line Ibanez bridges. No fear there.... although if you are choosy (like me), you might want to hunt down the older prestieges with the Edge/Lo Pro Edge trems, but there is no need.

the RG2120X has a piezo system... you sure you need that? I mean, a piezo never sounds as good as a real acoustic guitar and its just 1 more sound, no versatility on its own. You sure?

Other than that... just take your pick of wood combinations and stuff... or a midi equipped guitar. :) There's sharkfin inlays if you like... or with middle pup or without.

Oh yeah, try looking for a RG1550 (discontinued)... heh.. basswood body with a maple fretboard... Edo83 has 1 and its pretty sweet!

How about an S series prestiege? There's some dude selling his for 1k in MINT cond apparently. The ZR trem is very good too.

As a owner of a RG2820, i urge u to go check it out if u can find it. the sustain on this guitar is killer man! goes on like forever. it has vine inlays like the Jem series. u can get quite a thick sound out of it and can make it sound like a les paul. these r the main plus points. bad points abt it is that its really very very heavy. slightly lighter then a les paul. they say its body is made from mahogany. oh, i'm not sure if swee lee still carries this guitar cuz it limited edition 2003. might have to look for it 2nd hand. have fun!!

I've been playing mostly set neck. The piezo is a plus, though not a must. I would prefer basswood as its quite a pretty neutral wood. But mahogany is fine with me. I would prefer RG as I would like to try 24 fretters, it's my metal + DT phase kicking in.

RG2820 bro. Sell me your RG2820 lo. Hehe.

All in all I'd prefer buying used. Cheaper. Alot more cheaper. :smt003 The extra money saved will go to a good tube amp.

the RG2820 is a J Custom if I'm not wrong... I will bet you that ain't no more available esp since it has the Vine of Life Inlay.

I setup 1 before... SWEET looker.

Btw, lifehouse, there's a guy selling an RG550 on yahoo auctions singapore... its worth checking out... try for $650 - $700... looks like in good condition and it has the almighty Edge trem.

Are there any RGT42 or RG3120 at Sweelee?

I saw a RG3120 at Swee Lee down town show room. List price is around 3K, I don’t remember exactly. Also noticed that a lot of Prestige price goes up in show room.

I don't think you can easily get a RG2820 in second hand market as collectors are hunting down this axe and paying top $$$. It has J-custom vine inlay, not like vine on JEMs.

Swee lee probably have a wide range of RG Prestige from 1570 to 2660. If you want a swirl limited edition, wait for a while, RG20051 is coming.

I think the RG Prestige's quality are pretty much there, it depends on the different options that you would like to have on the guitar imo.

With a budget of 1.5k, you might be better off with a 2nd hand. Prices are soaring year after year. Perhaps a look at the S series too?

Shredcow: your S also quite fun with all those tonal options that you set it up. Me just got lucky with my purchase of 1550 hehe

I'm not really keen on the colour. I'm not really very particular about colour, but that colour and pink doesn't do it for me. :smt003 If someone sells the 3120 at a good price, I'll be over it in no time.

Does edge pro 2 > edge 3?

Hahahha! I recall seeing a 3120 in Guitar Connections. Purple colour and its pre-2003, that means it has the legendary Lo Pro Edge.

GO FOR IT.

Hmm.. Earliest I can check is Friday in that case. On leave. NS life kinda sad.

How does the neck thru perform, compared to bolt on?

Some say increased sustain... and the material that the neck thru body is made of, makes a diff... like a Maple Neck thru a mahogany body, means that there is less mahogany in the body due to the maple neck thru. So slightly different tone. As for sustain, its not like extra couple of seconds, more like a couple milliseconds.

Anyway, break a neck thru and you'll cry if it has to be replaced. Your pockets will BURN and your guitar will have to be operated on.

But then again, how often do people break necks? Or how often do good quality necks break?

they are asking about 1.8 K for that 3120 and I think it's not worth it for second hand. Some people are selling 3120 at 1.4K if you can wait.

Also Swee Lee year end sale is coming and you might get a brand new with 1.8K
