Been going for auditions for quite sometime, finally get a chance to go for proper training to perform on stage, but i still cant get rid of the stage fear thingy... any way to minimise stifness n tension at the shortest possible time? I dun really feel nervous when on stage but my instructor said i am VERY 'WOODY'... :(

haha man... come on... everyone tries it in their head.. and thinks "what the hell am i thinking, this doesn't WORK" whoever came up with that theory must have been on some very good drugs man... you KNOW that doesn't work!.. haha

Be all you can be =D Think that you're on stage because you're different. Give the audience something to look up to. Stand out. Be what the rest are afraid to be.

Honestly guys like.. being on stage might be one of the scariest things in the world to you, but when you're up there, YOU are king...

i just really think you should ACT like you dont care and the audience will respond to it...

it's almost a cycle... the more comfortable you make yourself seem, the more the audience will be engaged and the more the audience are engaged the easier it'll be for YOU...

people dont expect you to be shy if you're ON the stage in the first place so just act like you're better than the audience (because you ARE). if you weren't, YOU wouldn't be the one on the stage... simple.

ever gone to a jamming studio?juz treat it like as if u're jamming in a jam studio..like as if the audience r 'not ther'...like tt u'll LET LOOSE...

yeah... for me the biggest problem is NOT being scared to perform.. like, i'm not scared to be on stage, but it's like talking to the audience during songs and stuff.. i find it very difficult... during the music i can act like the biggest idiot and not care... but when i have to talk and like introduce songs i feel really pressured and like nervous pretty much, whether it be an audience of 50 or 500... :? anyone else like that

ME! Haha.. I suck at talking. I mean. What on earth are we supposed to say anyways?! I usually sputter rubbish. And sound really really stupid. So that doesn't help =\

yeah man hahahaha... i got you... thats the only time like i feel really "little" haha... seriously.. like.. when i say stuff i feel so... ah.. it's such a different feeling!.. every time i talk i feel like everything coming out of my mouth is bullshit and like everyone is just looking up at me thinking ... this guy is scared off his face haha

is this 4 frontmen only or evry1 in bands?i'm a guiatrist so the talking stuff dont really concern me :D ...
but frontmen dont really hav to talk much to the audience right?i watched GnR use ur illusions part I n axl only started talking to the crowd like, after 2 songs..n all he said was 'how r u doind tonight' n stuff like tt...

Generally speaking:

Don't be so self-conscious and think like a rock star. Stage fright will become the least of one's problems.

Exactly.

If you're the singer / frontman and start to think "Oh no, if I do this, then people will think I'm an idiot, if I do that, people will say I look like a fag, if I do..." , you'll never do anything on stage and will be labeled as an idiot, fag and whatever the hell you were thinking you are. Because YOU ARE. The thing is, people pay you (or your organizer) to see you perform. They're not here to see you freeze up and just move your mouth, they want to be entertained! That's what they're here for, and that's what you'll have to deliver.

If you're allowed to do fillers between songs, then it's even more important to be entertaining. It's okay if you have nothing particularly important to say, just try to interact with the crowd. Like I said, they want to be entertained, so just communicating and letting them know that you are singing to THEM would be nice. Like, "What's up you alllllll, how's you doin'?", while cheesy and stuff, engages the audience attention to YOU, so in your next song, they'll be more interested in YOU. Whilst some may argue that some audiences are dead, it's okay, move on, don't get nervous because they don't respond immediately.

Also, as a frontman singer, you will have to draw attention to other members of the band. It will be tough, but least you could do is introduce your members. And during their respective solo parts (if they have), say something like "GIVE IT UP FOR -lead guitarist's name-!!!", you know, let your own band members and the audience know that you yourself know what's going on, and at the same time shift the audience's attention to the person who is supposed be soloing. This also gives some encouragement to the soloist because he knows that if he screws up now, he's dead. :P

That's my 2 cents worth.
