Humming sound in the amp

There's this humming sound in the amp when I turn on the amp and ets even louder when I turn on the drive. The sound only goes off when I touch the guitar strings. Is is the amp's problem or do I just need to earth it? Thanks!

Sounds like you have an earth problem - If the amp is only buzzing when you have your guitar in it then check the guitar lead 1st (easiest - borrow a lead to test). Next step would be the Guitar jack input - make sure that the wires are insulated and not touching, and not worn etc. Then it is on to the main wiring in the guitar if all this is OK.
