im a noob with the guitar, can anyone teach me how to shread? and maybe give me some advice on what songs i should try learning first, before i built up on shreading. i really want to learn to shread.

hmm well, its just that i feel like i lack that certain element, the shreading element. i just want to improve my guitar skill thats all. i've been stoned to just strumming and simple plucking, i want to improve. haha yea. care to teach me?

the key to shredding lies in alternate picking..practise strict alternate picking and you should find long shred runs easier...

haha, its not really a problem, i just need a step by step guidance on learning how to shread, i can alterate my picking, but i just dun know how to go about shreading. i need like, maybe a guide to the kind of songs that i should learn first, or something like that.

alt picking. up down up down up down up down...

ask dhalif la, he's the man.

try his patented "HANTAM" method! (actually it aint patented, he believes in free sharing) :smt038

sup, i am new to this forum but heres a way to build speed, strength and co-ordination...

practice alternate picking (up down) along each string fingering accordingly the index (1), middle (2), ring (3) and pinky (4). move up and down the frets from low e to high e in this same repititive pattern until you are comfortable enough to move along the fretboard in this same pattern. (you can play ard with the fingerings 2341, 4321, 3412 etc...)

it gets old fast but it works wonders if you are committed enough to stick to it long enough. speed doesnt matter at first.. remember to play it clean and smooth all the way through.. speed comes later..

ALWAYS use a metronome to keep time.. and once you get hang of the speed you are currently playing.. increase the speed of the metronome and play along. remember that speed is just another tool in your arsenal.. tone, fluidity, vibrato are just as important

hope this helps..
