I want to sand down my gloss finish to a matt finish. What grit sand paper should i use and when should i change the grit ?

Thanks in advance :)

Above 1000 grit should do the job. Another alternative is 00000 steel wool. If it is your maiden attempt, you should try it on other wood items with gloss finishing before working on your guitar. While it is no rocket science, things can go wrong if 'over-sanding" happen. Practice first, it is wiser.

you won't be getting the results you expect that's for sure. getting your hands on some grid 2000 sandpaper and Kimlac Matt would help but you definitely need a practice subject first.

One thing about sanding down poly-finished guitars: Patience is key! Some of them have REALLY thick finishes and can take time, but if you rush it you're screwed...

Like what relinquish said, it's a diff kinda matt if u sand down the gloss. I would use 2000 grit and wetsand. See if that helps first.
